    Mongol Warrior Concepts

    Hey guys,

Thought I'd upload a few WIPs over the next couple days, any feedback would be appreciated!

The first one I'm doin at the mo, more of an evil dark character:

    Re: Mongol Warrior Concepts

I like the concept and the sketch itself so far, only crit is his right hand, seems too streched or twisted...other than that keep at it :)

Perhaps a sugestive background now no? simple one...Anyway just my two cents :)

    Rock on!

Thx for the crit, I see what you mean about the hand, there is something wrong with it. After a couple of attempts I gave up though as I'm on a strict time limit!

Here's the final(ish) pic,  if anyone sees anything glaringly dodgy about it let me know!

    Re: Mongol Warrior Concepts

those are some great droid concepts there.

your knight looks good too but the fist seems at an odd angle either where he's holding it to his body or how he's holding it to his body. not sure which but something looks odd with that part of it.

    Re: Mongol Warrior Concepts

    Thx for the crits,

I know what you mean about the arm, its because of the shape of his gauntlet, it has a huge lip, but from that angle throws his arm out! Unfortunately it's too late to change now, my deadline is thursday. (Then I'll have finished uni.. scary!)

But its still good to get crits to know what things to avoid next time.

Anyways, here's some more droids and warriors:

These are fairly quick roughs, taking 20-60 mins each.

    Lemme know what you think,

    Thanks,

    Jenx

    Re: Mongol Warrior Concepts

I wish I could come up with stuff like this in 20-30 mins each.  Sheesh!!!!!!!!!  You are good.  Are these for anything in particular or for fun??  Where are you hoping to go after University?  I wish you good luck with wear ever you go.

As for the artwork of the droids and warriors I think I would do some of them up as paintings with backgrounds and stuff.  That is my opinion anyway.  :)

    Re: Mongol Warrior Concepts

    Thanks Cinders,

The middle ones of each sheet took 20 odd mins whereas the others took upto an hour each.

These are last minute additions to my final project at uni, I've set myself a concept art style project, the rest of the art is here

After uni, I'm applying for teaching assistant jobs so I have time to hone my skills, improve my portfolio and then get into concept art for games.... hopefully!

Anyway, thanks for checking it out!

    Re: Mongol Warrior Concepts

nice sketches Jen, especially for the time frame. I particularly like the middle top one in the robes though his hands look a little weird at the moment.

    Re: Mongol Warrior Concepts

Hah, thanks, although that middle guy is the real sketchy loose one of the group!

His hands are wierd cuz I just did a load of scribbles the way I build up robes, and let a character form from it.

Once I had that I didnt really refine it, I wanted this page to be much looser.

Thanks for checkin 'em out tho

if that's loose I'd love to see your detailed stuff. Stick out tongue

    Re: Mongol Warrior Concepts

Hah, I havn't really done any super detailed stuff. I try and keep paintings with more atmosphere and action, with a more painterly feel too them.

To be honest I've only really been painting in Photoshop since Xmas, my Illustration course was very traditional and children's book/editorial orientated. So hopefully in the future I can only improve and try out new ideas!

Well, Thanks for the kind words (and feel free to check out my DA page, its always up to date)

Off to tidy up loose ends before tomorrow!

    Droid Concept Sketches

Those two full page droid sketches are hot! Any chance you'll be working on them some more after you graduate? Dunno if you saw Emrah Elmasli's workshop on robots but I'd really love to see you go somewhere like that

Of course, your designs look like they're plastic or possibly ceramic as opposed to metal but that shouldn't be a problem...

    Re: Droid Concept Sketches

    Thanks Alx,

No I didn't see the workshop I'm gonna check lots of them out, I've been so busy I needed to just concentrate on what I was doing, and not deviate. But I handed In everything yesterday, so now I just have to wait to see if I've passed!!

Yeah they arn't meant to be metal, theyre meant to be a kind of white ceramic/plastic stuff.

Thanks for the comments, more stuff will go up in a couple days when I've had a well deserved chill out!
