    Little Prince's Rose

This is my last work, it is pretty much done, but I would like to get opinions before signing it :)

Please, don't be afraid of giving critique, I can take it ;)

Really nice concept, I know you're going for the comic book style but i'd love see this with more realism.

Making Fantasy reality or trying to at least......

    Re: Little Prince's Rose

yeah i think the stem looks like it's a different style to the rest of the image as it doesn't have the 'fullness' that you've put into the hair & the leaves, they almost look 3D ish, where the stem looks flat. And i'm with Tector on the thorns, i'm not sure if they are a bit too big? And just on a personal preference, i would have liked the stem greener, as it is it's looking a bit tree trunky, and leaf stems tend to have more green than brown.

lovely fresh cartoony feel to this though. I like it alot. I could see it in a storybook.

I swear it was unintentional... but darn! it makes it look so clever!

    Re: Little Prince's Rose

I'd work on the sky a bit more, have a lighter blue at the bottom and work on the clouds some more, Diane gives a pretty nice brush for clouds and random texture http://dianae.deviantart.com/art/Why-don-t-you-do-right-73387404

my two other pointers would be, considering the base of the rose and your character are about at the same distance, they should be affected by the same kinda area effect, but they all seem to have their own shade purple or blue when it comes to shading them which sometimes make the whole thing a bit uncunsistant? And finaly, I took of the bird and sun, the birds because they were more of an eye distraction, and the sun because if it were to be there, you'd have to shade your character in consequance, which is "a contre-jour"...what ever that is in english xD

oh and I love this book, and you sure got the rose's attitude right :p nice job

I am not quite sure what you mean by 'area effect'. I did use the same purple for shading though. I like your clouds very much, how did you do them?

    Re: Little Prince's Rose

Just follow the link I gave you, I think it's the 21th brush, Start off with some big shapes, and then get the brush down in it's size 20 or something and draw smaller clouds. Looking at a couple of clouds first to better understand their shapes also help.

yeah...I wish I had more vocabulary in english but it's basecly leonardo Da Vinci's fumigato...You know the effect of everything getting bluer as they are further away? In addition to the principal that if all your elements are lighten by a single source, then they should all have the same type of shade, the same purple tint and same ammount of it. We see it in your character, but not in the plant part....does that make more sense? xD

Seems kinda crazy me givin language lessons, but here goes:

""fumigato" or "sfumato"  means "smoky" and refers to a kind o' smoky blurrin - may be distance, may be shadows; when things apparently get bluer due to distance that's "atmospheric perspective."   An' "contre-jour" translates into English as "against the light" or, more simply, "backlit."  Well hell now, must get back to the ol' Texican!

    Re: Little Prince's Rose

Thanks for the clarification. Sfumatto makes perfect sense.

Reworked the clouds and got rid of the geese. I'd like to include them, but they look like too much.
