    Please help! - Naked Beauty pinup

    Well, I've been working on this one for two days now, pretty much. I'm new to coloring digitally, I'm only experienced with markers and such, so I need some help here.

    I had a reference for the sketch, but as for the coloring it's all an experiment. One thing I've figured is that I probably need more contrasts, 'cause everytime I've played around with the colors for a while and feel happy about it, I leave for a bit, come back and it looks all flat.

    C&C very welcome. :)

    EDIT: Oh, and I'm planning on adding a  background later, I just want help with the girl for now. Thanks! ^^

    I am no expert. But what I first notice is, her legs are too short. I think. And then you should really think about getting a proper light source that you need to stick with.That's the main thing you need to figure out. Because now I see light coming from many directions making it a bit confusing and hard for you to make shadows.

    And yes, you just need more contrast and shadows to make it look more believable. Just add a new layer, and go with some dark colours and see how it goes.

    Hmm, it's funny you should say that, because they were longer before, but I got critique on that so I actually cut off a bit. ^^;

    Light-source is something I'm always struggling with, but you're right. I'll try again.

    Thanks for your comment! :)

    For the light source, don't make it so it is straight on, make it from an angle, makes it more interesting. And if you pull that off, try to get a second light source also from another angle with some colour like blues or reds for an example. This is an example of that: http://henning.deviantart.com/art/Owner-79997277

    Keep on going, this could be a good one =)

    I thought about that too. Like I said I'm new to this, and uptil now I've only done cel-shading and stuff like that and I have a hard time getting out of the cel-shading-thinking when coloring. Tried to use blue as shadows a bit, but other than that I'm not certain which colors to use. Yellow? >_ò

    (Kul att se fler svenskar här, för övrigt :P)

     Thank you for that advice, I'll keep that in mind. :)

    Cool link btw. Me and my bf squealed in joy when we recognized the cover for the Arkham Horror board game in his gallery. ^^

    Thank you for your comments, got me psyched up to have another go with the pic.

     You are so welcome! I'm glad to help.

    Go work on this one now! but first, just look at it for five minutes and plan ahead a little on how you want it to look like with colours, light source and shading. Then, have fun!

    i would say her feet need a little work, you say you used a ref for this, was it a photo ref? you might want to check her feet, they look a little small and the toes all look the same, however i'm not sure what you are trying to achieve, cos it looks a little mangaish, in which case the small feel & toes would be fine. Anyway it's a nice piccy, if you make the changes suggested it will be really good.

    I guess my style is manga, but I'm trying to step it up a bit. So, I guess that's what I'm going for with this one.

    Also, I must ask something. What do you guys think of the perspective and depth in this one? Because I've had some really harsh critique from another place where the person thought it completely lacked depth and it looked like she was standing up. I didn't think so myself, but I would want to hear from another source too, to see if I'm wrong or if that person just wanted to lecture someone. ^^;

    no i don't think it looks like she's standing up, it would be a pretty hard pose to do standing up, but because there is no background, it's hard to place her, i think if you put even a basic background that would stop that, however, you know she's not standing and if you're going to put a background in later then i wouldn't worry. some people like to lecture, unless it's constructive and relevant, it might be worth taking with a pinch of salt Big Smile

    Re: Please help! - Naked Beauty pinup

    She doesn't stand up, even though it might look like it at first glance! As Kazky said, a basic background would do the trick with some basic shadowing on the background.

    Could I suggest a background? How about one ofm those puffy red sofas you see in some of the old movies, with the gold trimming and fancy pillows. Just a quick idea to make the background interesting. Keep going, looking forward for the next wip!

    EDIT* Is it alright if I do a quick paintover? I won't if you don't like the idea, just to show you how and what I mean with the lightsource and shadow and all that. Is that alright?

    I don't think it looks like she's standing up (as kazky said, that would be nigh on impossible in that pose), but I can see where a criticism of lack of depth and perspective could come from. I'm not getting much sense of the forms overlapping as the body goes from front to back, if that makes sense.

    Her head and upper body are almost straight on, as if we were above her looking down, but her lower body (judging by the buttocks) is seen from an angle as if we were standing near her feet.

    That would be really cool, I like the idea of the sofa. ^^  I'd really appreaciate help with the lightsource, thanks! :)

    Ok, cool. I was a bit worried there.

    I think I'm gonna stay to this place to get my work critizied, people seem more mature here.  ^_^
