A MAG ISSUE DEDICATED TO JUNIOR ARTIST PLZ

Hello IFX, I have been looking through a lot of my old issues of IFX lately and I have noticed a theme the magazine has not yet created which I feel would do very well. An issue purely dedicated to the junior artist out there (people aged up to 18). There are many junior artists out there like me who read your magazine but have never been featured. I believe this a great idea that could help many junior artists get known in the art field. I hope you like this idea and use it in a future issue.

    Many thanks again

I think Junior artist up to 30 is a fairer range.

why though? an artist is an artist regardless of age, i'm not sure what benefit it would be mitchell?

    Age is a poor discriminator

    Kazyky > point

I too do not feel any special need for an age discrimination. An artist is an artist whatever the age (young/seasoned/decrepit...)

    However,

IFX has a good selection of Junior/And seasoned articles and interviews

    By junior:

    • Artist with some or minimal rudimentary skills
    Seasoned
    •  Can draw a straight line. Can draw a circle. Can make aesthetic imagery. Makes a living selling art if lucky even

If anything, the majority of the middle and growing middle selection of artist require more effort to fine point what deficiencies and badly taught/self taught habits or abilities and should be honed further and encouraged (brow beaten into if needed) to become seasoned.

Wasn't something like this brought up once before? I seems to remember the idea getting the same kind of reaction then too. I pretty much agree with what's been said by Kaz and koshime.

Now I'm off to line some forum member up against a wall and shoot them...

mitchell is 17, that's why! xD

    thehehe

Now to be honest, I'm not interrested in seeing junior art, not because they're junior, but because I want to see great art, not art done by artists of a particular age. Now the second reason I'm not that much into the junior special is because I want to see people with more experience then me, I'm looking for mentors and people who've been through a lot to tell us the ropes and tricks to get into the industry, not just good artists. One other thing that might explain why we don't see that much juniors; older people have often completed art classes and university progam that pimped their mad drawing skillz... And younguer drawer often have to much portrait, picture reproduction and fanarts in their portfolio. In 3 or 4 featured images, you need to inspire people (which is hard to do with fanarts and faces from fashion magazines...) demonstrate creativity and then display skills. I don't know if you noticed, but there's been a couple of issues with artists featured that warn't as much as techniciens of drawing but people with creative ideas and style.

that said, this has been suggested before, I don't remember by who, but I remember it from when I started lurking arround the forums.

well, being a young'n myself, (just turned 18. weee!) i can see where ur coming from...

its always interesting seeing how you stand up to othersof a similar age...

not that it should matter, but its interesting! Stick out tongue

but iv seen a few ( not lots)  young artists in IFX, but im pretty sure IFX  dont go scouring the realms of deviantart or other to find the next 16 year old prodigy, lol.

    or maybe they do...

anyway, the new generation of artists is arising (pick me pick me!)

    mwa ha ha!

Only the young need age as a crutch to prove their worth.

Go kick ass but let age not be an issue. But be judged purely on your own merits

Re: Only the young need age as a crutch to prove their worth.

I agree with everything that's been said here... a lot of the time I see younger artists going around bragging about how young they are and I think it's just ridiculous.  Granted I still get comments from people at art shows that I am very young, even though I am 20, nearly 21.  But I don't see what importance it has other than a momentary ego boost and lately it means very little to me when people say it.  I just kind of brush it off because I find it more insulting now than flattering.

I also don't think it's wise to feature people under the age of 18 with the intent of "Getting them known in the industry" because they can't legally work in most cases, nor can they legally sign contracts.  No one would be interested in hiring any of them.  All it would be is a popularity contest...

    thats true...

..but just out of interest tho, i see a lot of artists in imagineFX where it says they started working professionally at 16, and 17 and such. how does that go about?

but yeah, if ur young and talented, thats fair, if ur young and just like to brag about it, then its not an impressive quality/attribute/mechanism/meat loaf.Stick out tongue

also, ur insulted when ppl brag about their age?

Re: Only the young need age as a crutch to prove their worth.

absolutely solalia, i see little point in it, its like, 'you're young, you can draw, well done', that's about as much interest it should have really, most people start out drawing & painting at that age, i guess it's interesting to the younger artists for comparison, but i'm more interested in reading about a seasoned, experienced talent really.
