    Two questions for IFX

    Just curious:

I have two quetions for IFX or anyone that's "In the know" as it were.

First of all ...I love IFX and if I could..I'd donate tons of money to make it even better and raise the salaries of all it's employees...INCLUDING it's free-lance writers (heya Mark!) but ....ok...How does IFX pay it's bills and manage to keep up such a good site? Is it purely with advertising and magazine sells?

    Secondly

I've been consistently on here day in and day out, yeah? Right. The membership is over 7,000 which I suppose is a good thing. But I've only really seen Mabye....like what...a hundred if that "different" members on here...really more like 50 that are active..and out of that ...hmm...20 or so that enter the challenges on a regular basis. And out of that...only like 3 that are ALWAYS on here...god bless em! She knows who she is...her name begins with a K and ends with a Z. Don't forget me and Banj and Harley and Nick and Gurch and JackDaw and Exhastex (still can't pronounce that right)...and others...but where's the other 6,999 members? Where the heck are they? How  come this site isn't flooded with them ? I don't get it? Oh I forgot Fushia and Dmarsh. hey there..sorry.

    I'd reallylike to know :)

Have you ever noticed the deeper you look into life the more it loses it's meaning....?

At least 50% of the members of any internet art forum are what I call "showboaters" - they just post images for comments, never venture outside their own threads or gallery, and have no interest in the community aspect other than for stroking their egos.

    I also call them "arseholes"

That's a bit much, even for you. I like these 'showboaters'. Nothing wrong with members adding only to their galleries. One of my favourite galleries is run by a person that's never posted in the forums.

The beauty is that I can call them anything - because they'll never read this thread.Smile

My point is that if you look up at the url of this or any other page in this forum, it'll start with "http://community.imaginefx.com/forums" - not "http://fanclub.imaginefx.com/forums"

I tend to just ignore these types anyway - I can't be bothered with people that can't be bothered with people.

i totally agree em, i like it when people get involved, it's inevitable that some just add to their galleries and that's it, but i think the whole point is that you join the community, otherwise it's a showcase & not much use to anyone, you might as well get your own webpage. Since I joined here, i have many new friends, from all over the world, and closer to home (online obviously) and i think that's a bonus. I've learnt so much & hopefully helped some people too. Isn't that what it's supposed to be about?

We like the forums and that's fine, I think there's room for everyone. I'm certainly not going to slag fellow members that have never slagged me.

    Re: Two questions for IFX

There are some of us who have been reduced to scanning the airwaves for enough of a signal to actually make a useful connection....which even then doesn't usually last long enough to accomplish anything. Kinda depressing really....but yeah, I'm on when I can be....also keep in mind that some of us are not even on the same continent let alone in the same time zone.

Those type of people also eat babies, kick puppies and steal money from your granny's purse when she's making them a nice cup of tea.

They're the people bought copies of Joe Dolce's Shaddap You Face!, thereby preventing Ultravox's Vienna getting to number one in the charts.

    Re: Two questions for IFX

ah man, my name was left out. *cries* errr....wait. yah, I've been in and out lately though I do lurk, check my inbox for problems and keep a general eye on things. soon my part time job'll be over with (only 2 weeks to go) and then I just have to worry about my wedding. and I do throw my comments in from time to time to contribute to the community. Smile

I actually got my high post count because in the first 6 months the site was up I'd post a response to every single piece of work posted in the WIP and Final threads. Avg'ed 50-100 posts a day back then. *phew* quite the sore fingers back then.Stick out tongue

but yah, I get what your saying about all the lurkers and showboaters out there. I like em. A lot of the time I wish some of them would contribute more in the community rather than just their own.

    Re: Two questions for IFX

Have to agree, I feel it's a shame when I see a great portfolio on the homepage of someone I've never even heard of on this forum.

I tend to think, "what could this guy/gal teach people from just a little forum time?"

Making Fantasy reality or trying to at least......
