Hi guys, after a discussion with fabledgoat we are introducing a new rule which will be tried out to see how it goes. The following notice has been posted in the other current WIP threads to give everyone sufficient notice. 

Notice: Challenge Rule update!

At the request of several members the following rule will be implemented in future challenges - from the beginning of the next weekly (31/May), and the next Monthly (1/June).

From that point, anybody wishing to have their entry included in voting MUST include at least 2 WIP stages in the WIP thread. In order to make it easier to find these WIPs when setting up voting, entrants MUST also include 2 "clickable" links direct to their own WIP stages in the relevant WIP thread. Entrants can post far more than 2 WIP stages if they like in the WIP thread, as long as 2 seperate links are included with the image posted in the Final Entry thread. Both links must show different stages of the pictures development and neither WIP image can be the finished entry (i.e. you can't just post a couple of quick early pencil sketches for WIP and skip to the the finished pic). The timing of these posts is not important as long as they are within the current WIP/challenge period.

Any entry not including 2 valid links (as described above) will be disqualified and not be included in the voting list. It will be the responsibility of the entrant to ensure the links are there and that they link to the correct artwork. Even If you have posted artwork in the WIP thread, you will still be disqualified from entry if you do not supply the links to those images.

 Any questions about this should be asked in this thread to make it easier for everyone to find. This post will be updated with any clarifications.

The answer to one question already is that the links must be to the actual post where your WIP image is located. This means you are required to post in the relevant WIP thread for each challenge. I've attached a quick guide to help (click the pic to make it bigger if necessary)...

example: the URL of this post is http://community.imaginefx.com/forums/permalink/107660/107660/ShowThread.aspx#107660 and I would need to include another post link like that to another WIP.

By jove I think I've got it. I agree Banj, it's more extra work if you don't have much time to post WIPs in the first place, but the trouble that people are going to to actually set up other accounts, I don't think it'll put them off. But you gotta try these things. I just don't get it though, is it really worth all that trouble just to get a little corner in the magazine, I know it'd be cool to see your pic, but it's hardly a double page spread or anything. Not that I think they shouldn't get printed, just for the record) Get a life, cheaters! (lol)

 Btw Banj, any thoughts on what would be easier for you guys, opening in a separate window, or in the same one? (bet I post this then read your paragraph and it'll answer my question)

So to enter for the challenge one has to first overcome the challenge of posting a challenging link not once but twice in succession and also have at least two pictures that show the work in progress of the painting that is posted into the final challenge thread both of these images must not be either a sketch or a finished piece of artwork so if I am correct then its as easy as 1,3,2...Now to work out where one will find the time to not only create a stunning challenge winning artwork but also to post two or more work in progress steps within the work in progress thread that are neither a sketch or finished painting then one has to find the time to create two links to said works in progress.

So to sum up (or down) if I paint Link from Zelda then thats one link taken care of and just one more to find.

It is a lot more work for everyone involved (and probably quite unnecessary), I have to point out that neither myself or fabledgoat actually like the idea of compulsory WIPs, and we don't even believe it will stop anyone posting older work if they wanted to. This has mainly been introduced to shut up the people demanding it every other week.

As for what's easiest for us, I tend to right click links and open them in a new tab anyway, so it doesn't make much difference to me. Can't speak for fabled on that, but he has got 2 capable hooves available for such complex manoeuvre's. So I'd say it's up to you, just so long as those links appear.

i'd really like to see people saying WHY they did a particular thing in a particular way, or how they used brushes or whatever as well as a WIP.  For me a WIP is about seeing how a person works rather than proving their worth, as t'were.  It's why i have started putting such thoughts together.
