Re: Rebels Challenge # 37 - Introducing The Newest Cenobite (Hellraiser)

Thanks Geir but Zeph is right there are some perspective issues in the concept. I am running into some unusual pitfalls with the character and composition too. My Instinct right now is tellin me less is more. This is a real challenge for me because I am used to using bright vibrant colors. But with this challenge I am totally leaving my comfort zone! which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Cool

I'll just second or third what ZephyrA and Geir have said, this is a great start, I realize this is an early WIP, but one impression I got right away was that is was a collection of ideas for a sketch rather than a single sketch of an idea.  I didn't (until just now going back to look at it) realize the large hand in the background was attached to the creature at all, but just a sketch of a hand, same with some of the heads.

Re: Rebels Challenge # 37 - Introducing The Newest Cenobite (Hellraiser)

I couldn't agree with u more there Mjasnowski! Even though it is the 1st sketch some  things are really off! for instance I see what you mean about the hand now and the heads not being connected. I feel the same way now. "Sometimes u just don't see your mistakes until someone points them out! Your absoloutely correct! were here to learn from eachother! that's what all it's about!

Please never be afraid to  really lay into the artwork. I stand by my  word when I say Constructive Criticism is the artist's greatest tool! Plus the art industry can be very brutal when it comes to critiquing artwork. "Just take it with a grain of salt and learn from it!"

And no matter how good u think u are or become there is always going to be someone better you! It's just a fact of life really and it occurs not only in art, but for everything. Cool

sorry didn't mean to get to phisiological on you LOL!

Thanks for the critique! I'll post my new  Wips later.Cool

I'm starting to understand that it's a natural anatomical proportions your after. In that case I would suggest that you take a look at the over all figure. Here are some pictures that can help.

Re: Rebels Challenge # 37 - Introducing The Newest Cenobite (Hellraiser)

Oh boy!  some frighteningly great work here.
Robin- awesome lovely details you got going there, this is gonna be another beaut! LOL someone mentions weird creature and you pop out of the box.-- perfectly suited to your style this challenge.
Solomon- admire your thumbnail sketches and ideas, the start of your painting looks superb indeed,  the lighting on the face works brilliantly in giving the cenobite an eerie quality. love it , i wanna see more updates. Here eyes are really spooky and Im enjoying those surgical looking  attachments
ZephyrA- that is a really atmospheric painting.  Your line "this is it for tonight. I'm feeling a bit disturbed after looking for reference photos..." made me laugh. Some tasty detailing there, liking the shine on the leather.
A-M- genius idea, really unsettling pencil sketch, I agree with Geir the perspective on those eyeball cubes needs tweaking. Hope to see it develop.
Gier- the background is perfect, great figure too, adore the green  refection on his head brace. I just think you need to get a rounded feel to his torso, it seems flat.
Many mean looking beasties there Slaine69 . Impressive thumbnails.
Nice start Fragg and rnx. Great to see a bright use of colours mjasonaski, the cenobite cheerleader is a novel concept indeed and fits the bright and breezy  character you have. It makes me feel cheered up just looking at it.
DKDUDE- you fellow really seems to come forward of the page with his tentacles and stuff, gonna admit his face looks suitably menacing.
    .
    .
Its scary looking through this thread whilst you all run riot with hooks and torn flesh...can safely say that you are all sick twisted weidos, and I can only hope your cenobark is worse than your cenobite!

No problem DKDUDE, same goes for me :)

Thanks Gurch, yours looks suitably sinister, feasting on some poor soul :)

WIP 5 - Cleaned up lines, some work on hands (still lumpy and not clearly defined), some background details, cleaned up lines of background tiles on wall.

    Geir:

I've tweaked the halo a tab to fix the perspective. It was just a bit out. But now I'm calling it done. It will either be this edited version or last one before this. What do you guys say?

    Looks good :)
