    Re: Workshop Beginner Challenges

Well I'm trying to move on with the workshop... I'm still rather uncertain of how to go about it, but I tried to get the line drawing fairly done (though in a small scale...) I also experimented a little by adding some white to the black line drawing to see how well I was balancing the whole thing. It's not entirely accurate compared to the original and I'm not sure whether I'll make it more true or keep it this way. I know the younger girls head is too far from the arm of the "older" woman but then again I don't like how they're so very close in the original :P

Next time I guess I'll upscale it a bit (shown below at the size & res I was working) and try laying down the shapes... I think I'll try that "greyscale first" thing. Never managed it before, so we'll see how that goes. But here's tonight's effort:

    voluspa:

sorry for giving you trouble but :P could you try only turning the head? I think the way she was standing from the beginning might just be more dynamic, except for the head.

I'm still not sure how the moons can be lower than clouds, especially if the clouds are coming from the cauldron... but I don't think you need to remove the mountains. You might need something to imply middle distance between mountains and witches, though. As it is the mountains look close and therefore small.

i shall try to just turn her head, just got back from work and have decided i really dont like her as she is, she doesnt flow right XD ah well it was woth a shot i shall try and move her head

i shall think about it siomemore, i'm definatly goung to suggest the planest the 3 moons belong too, and once i start painting the wisps of smoke comeing from the caudron (watch me epicly fail XD) then i shall concider putting some of it over the moons.  but first i think i should get the witches done D: the deadline pushes near.

oh wooooow!! You guys have been working while i was gone :) Sorry I haven't been present, But i've been recently hooked on Plant and Fish Tycoon games XD. I'm hooked on games where you grow stuff. Anyway, I'm about to start sketching some things now... at least i think I am. I need to sketch tonight so I can just scan everything tomorrow, so I should have something to show you then. I also bought an encyclopedia of animals that I am enjoying VERY much looking at :D its so easy to distract me...

is the encyclopidia of animals drawing based or photo based? you could always draw from it that way you can look at it and draw at the same time :),  my boyfriend has this books about the planet, the univers, the rainforest, animals, human body and a few others which i draw from, the rainforest one has especially beautiful photos... i think i've claimed them as part of my refrence library XD i look forward to seeing your drawings ^^

Thanks a lot, my friend. Since we dive into art history from time to time, I thought I'd post a quick Picasso sketch I did on the subject "Cubism" in the sketchstorm thread. Really interesting way of drawing the figure Big Smile:

well... I'm having "one of those days"... I've been painting for hours and everything I touch turn to... ***. *sigh*

No progress from me this weekend and next weekend I won't be at home so unless I get some time during the week, my poor "Renoir" will have to wait a while...

hello my friends....I hope I have been missed around here. Things are getting better for me....but I've been so tired lately. I sleep alot. Soon I get to have a back operation and hopefully the pain will stop. One thing about constant pain people forget is....that it ...after awhile of constant nagging...can drain a body. I never thought about it till I've gone though it now...but I've also realised that our hardest times can be our most shining moments if viewed the right way. But it is not easy....I suppose nothing worthwhile in life is ever easy.

I just did a day ago....I keep getting this image in my mind my whole life. Here's one of my scribbles.

    Re: Workshop Beginner Challenges

One of the good things about pain, at least for me, is how quickly I can forget it once it's over... I just seem to have a really bad "pain memory". Although sometimes that's a disadvantage as well :P

I hope your pain will be gone soon. It really doesn't take very long - or even very much pain - before that "constant nagging" starts to affect you mood, so it's understandable that you feel drained. Do take the time to rest that you need.

Lovely "scribble" by the way :)

    Re: Workshop Beginner Challenges

    Hi guys!

Wonderful work Carly! I love the colors and the perspective :) I'll be praying for your back pain and surgery and all.

Wilg: Actually I am using the book to give me animals for my novel characters... you know, something else besides the normal wolves and foxes :) and it has drawings for the most part...a few photos in it. I have tons of books i use for reference...from books of buildings, furniture, clothing...you name it!

MB: Great work on what you have been doing lately. I really like your witches moon picture. I remembered that you like abstract, so I went and found the only abstract work i've ever done.. I'll take a picture of it and post it soon :)

I finally got around to scanning some things...I don't know why I always feel like its such a chore to scan images. So here they are:

The first one is a Carly image... I went back and took his and Frosty's crits on my first attempt and totally redrew the image. The Fairy and Wand Card: Not he word bubble wont be in the final... but i thought it was a fun thing to add in there for right now.

The second is the first of the "getting out of what i normally draw" type of pictures. I dont know when i'll finish it... its Mr. Jaguar:

And lastly, a new character for my Astria Legends novel series: Alizarin Crimson. This is a just a sketch to get the feel of the character, and probably wont be colored. He's made after a Waxwing.

I reckon that looks mightily like a Mr Tasslehoff Burfoot and a frosty mephit on an exciting adventure finding things other people have carelessly left lying around!
