Re: The Tavern of Endless and Offtopic Conversation.

Was earlier, but it's too dark to tell now.

Of course up in the Lake District they're so used to it there's a old saying: "If you can see the tops of the fells it's going to rain. If you can't, it is raining." Or as a street performer in Keswick put it, "this is the Lake District, there are several micro-climates between here and the bus stop".

Incidentally, that was part of a rather amusing rant from him when some people began to leave as it had started spitting. "If you can't handle a little rain, why did you come on holiday here!?" Considering he was shirtless, he was pretty justified in having a go at them.

Rain comes with the territory in the Lakes. That's one of the reasons it's so beautiful and verdant.

Exactly. There's nothing more glorious than driving through Honister Pass after heavy rainfall and seeing the waterfalls (or taking the Honister Rambler bus, but if you take that from Keswick I seriously suggest having an iron constitution and sitting on whichever side is away from the drop if you suffer from vertigo [and since you have to hang on at some points it also makes it a bit awkward to take photos out the window with a camera phone, especially if you're not in the window seat. I suspect I looked like a right muppet to the other passengers]).

    Sing along now:

She'll be surfing down the mountain side oh yeah!

She'll be surfing down the mountain side oh yeah!

She'll be surfing down the mountain!

    Surfing down the mountain!

She'll be surfing down the mountain side oh IFX!

    Repeat endlessly...

Had I sung that, I suspect I'd have been thrown down the mountain side.

My laptop is sick and in need of repair but sadly I don't have the funds to get the ransom for her. She has a faulty fan that is causing her to overheat, I tried to open her up and see if a home repair was possible only when all the screws were removed she still would not open.Sad They must have superglued her shut at the factory!ConfusedConfusedHuh?

Ah. You have cleverly uncovered their secret . . . to make you buy a new computer. Cha-ching!

mostly you need to remove from the top ed, you'll have to do a bit of gentle 'levering' with your screwdriver but it can be done, i had to take the screen off on one to get to the bare bones! A fan isn't too expensive so give it another go, before you have to get shafted by pc world or some such place!

You take laptop to PCWorld. PCWorld blokey opens casing (probably forcing it open with end of screwdriver). PCWorld blokey blows dust off fan blades. PCWorld blokey closes case and charges you £s for his "expertise".

This may be a daft suggestion, but if it's dust on the fan blades causing a problem, have you thought about using a vacuum cleaner on the fan vent? I recently discovered a large amount of dust was clogging the vent at the bottom of my iMac G5 (it was coming away in clumps), so I took the cleaner hose to it, was astonished at how much came out and now the fan runs noticeably quieter (it's still noisier than my laptop, but before it did a good impression of a small wind turbine).

Sadly it hasn't done much in way of relations between my CPU and Firefox.

That cleaning method also works well when you get skittles and french fries stuck to your motherboard :)

Thanks....it also works really well as a pizza topping.  If you didn't like crunchy skittles you can substitute them with fruit pastels! :)  Nem

Nope, couldn't really afford those as a student.....hence the bizzare kitchen moments lol

I did draw the line at cornflakes on a pizza though, that was just plain wrong!
