Sky Blue was cool. The movie was made at the time by a new Korean animation group. Was cool to see the mix of cgi and animation.

    Re: What's your favorite anime?

Blood: the last Vampire; Outlaw Star; Berserk; Hellsing/Hellsing:Extreme; Trigun; Cowboy Beebop; FLCL; X; Mononoke Hime (P. Mononoke); Captain Herlock; Shin Chan; TMNT(?); Sailor Moon; Dead Leaves; Ninja Scroll; Paprika; Quack Experimental Anime: Excel Saga (novelty from youth); Magical Shopping District Abenobashi; Aeon Flux...naturally, Akira, Ghost in the Shell, but I wanna say, those two are really rather boring, yet beyond comprehension in their displays of monolithic artistic prowess...oh...there are always some I forget, and then I feel terrible. Maybe someday I'll be able to add my own animation to this list of poignant animation milestones.

Now Blood was pretty cool. I'm iffy on the series, but I hear they are making a live version of it too.

My current favourite is Kuroshitsuji. It's so awesome ^^. Others I've really enjoyed are Speed Grapher, Darker than Black, Gankutsuou (the only one I've seen more than once) and Genshiken. There are probably more, but with so many I've seen I can't remember.

I'm not happy without my pencil.

Oh lord don't make me choose! Anime is one of those industries that has a perfect balance of rubbishy and awesome products so even if a few really bad ones will come out then you'll always find a few really awesome ones buried beneath.

Lucky Star, Outlaw Star, Black Lagoon, Twelve Kingdoms, Planates, Louie the Rune Soldier, Ghost Hunt and Tytania are just the main few I love watching right now, Tytania is a curse though, I only recommend watching it until all the episodes are release otherwise you'll torture yourself like I have because of the wait to each episode.

Outlaw Star, Black Lagoon and Twelve Kingdoms have heavily inspired me to make my own manga, once I get good enough at artwork I'll be sure to begin my project after I've thought out the storyline as detailed as they do ;)

    Re: What's your favorite anime?

Okay I just found this thread today.  I will add my two cents here too.  There were many anime shows carried on the french channels were I grew up in Ottawa Canada.  One of them was called Golderak not sure of spelling or English or Japanese name either.  It was a massive robot with yellow horns on the helmet and had a teenager at the controls.

We also had Battle of the Planets here as well.  Man I hated that robot 7zark 7 or whatever.  The other one I remember was Space Ghost (there was another name for it but it escapes me at the moment).

I am also a big fan of Myazaky films (sorry for miss spelling).  My favourite is Howl's Moving Castle, My Neighbour Totoro, Narssica is my absolute fave.  It is depressing at times but the animation was amazing.  The only movie I can not watch of his is Princess Mononoke.  The realism of the boar god gave me nightmares.  As long as I do not watch the beginning or the end it is a great movie.

I assume most of these have been mentioned but they are my favourites.

My ten year old daughter loves Sailor Moon, Bakugan, which is not too bad for a kids show, of course there is Pokemon.  I actually like the second movie the best from that series.

One last one Castle in the Sky by Myazaky.  Like one of the previous posts I am sure there are more but can't remember them right now.  May come back later with more ancient shows that come back to me.

Cant beat a good Miyazaki film. Sailor moon wasn't bad. I saw a few episodes and it got pretty complicated later on I hear.

    Re: What's your favorite anime?

I've seen a lot of good stuff but also a lot of mediocre things and even a few really bad series.

    Best series i've seen:

Neon Genesis Evangelion, Beck, Crest of the stars (and sequel series), FLCL, Claymore, Hunter x Hunter, Naruto till around episode 140 (after that it became utter crap), FMA, Gunbuster 1 and 2, Tengen Toppa Guren Lagann, The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya, Karas, Death Note, Berserk, Chobits, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Trigun, Hack / Sign,...

I'm sure i'm forgetting a few. The list of mediocre anime's is even bigger. Stuff like Nadia And The Secret of Blue Water, X, Ninja Scroll (series), Witch Hunter robin, Record of Lodoss War, etc... were also enjoyable to watch but they weren't "that" good.

When it comes to movies there's of course all the classics:

Akira, almost everything from Ghibli / Miyazaki, Ghost in the Shell, Grave of the Fireflies, Appleseed, Escaflowne,  etc...

    Worst things i've seen:

Armageddon (a Korean anime), Vampire Hunter D (only the first one, the second one was good), etc...

I've always wanted to check out Crest of Stars. With your recommendation, I may just do that now.

    Re: What's your favorite anime?

I thought Heroic Age was excellent, good use of scale combined with some Battlestar Galatica-ness. Another good anime is Elfen Lied, Claymore, Deathnote, 07 Ghosts (just started, on like episode 4) and whilst I love Bleach and Naruto I'm holding off on the episodes for a while and stock piling them for summer. Though Naruto seemed better in the earlier episodes, the later ones are a bit...urghhh...especially after the 100 episode strong fillers o_o

Um...I also like Samurai 7 and quite a few others....but not as much as the ones mentioned above :)

    fates_fickle_finger:

though I saw a couple of episodes of a newish one about a pair of kids who flew missions in a wierd flying contraption like a plane with no wings... very retro, napoleonic style soldiers with laser carbines.... dont know what it was called, but it was shaping up to be pretty good from what I saw, will have o find out what it was and watch some more.

Sorry to dredge up such an old post. Shows how often I get to use the intertubes these days, eh?

I came back from Tokyo a couple of weeks ago, and I suspect the Anime you're referring to is Sky Crawlers, which is terribly popular at the moment. Although they're a pair of kids who fly planes, so maybe not.

I'm liking a lot of recent stuff actually. Ergo Proxy is fabulous, as are the new versions of Hellsing and Fullmetal Alchemist (or Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood as it's going by).

I find a lot of adapted anime quite disappointing, but that's because the manga always does it better. Naruto is particularly dreadful, since they try to run apace with the source material... But when a single fight can take 6-10 issues of Weekly Jump, it might only take two 25-minute episodes... Then what do you do for the other 4-8 weeks? Filler! Woo! *sags* The manga is excellent.

Axis Powers: Helitalia looked pretty funky, with anthropomorphic representations of post-WWII countries hanging out and relaying some lesser-known historical facts. That's also pretty popular right now.

Of the older stuff, I like Gunsmith Cats, previous Fullmetal Alchemist (up to the end of season 2, after which it starts going totally off the rails),  Spirited Away, Perfect Blue, Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex, Otogi Zoshi, Cyber City Oedo 808, Space Adventure Cobra, and I'm sure there are a few I'm forgetting.

At the moment I have Noein on the to-watch pile, and am a few episodes into Le Chevalier D'Eon, which I'm really enjoying.

    Re: What's your favorite anime?

You've covered most of my favs already :), I also like Gilgamesh, and Fist of the North Star ( I only have one of these and don't know if it became a series), this one is great because of the over the top combat, My Neighbor Totoro is a good one too. The somewhat recent "Batman: Gotham Knights" was pretty great also.

    Re: What's your favorite anime?

I just recently watched Clannad and after story to about episode 15 and then I just gave up, if anyone else has watched this anime have they also felt seriously trolled by the second series? I don't know about you but I'm beginning to understand the complaints of this towards Kyoto Animations ( makers of Clannad etc. ) because the amount of over-dramatic rubbish, unexplained plotholes and terrible story writing after the first series just drove me nuts and it was like they got together and decided to see how many people would have the patience to watch it until they slit their wrists.

I just got totally bumbed out by this series >_< thank hell for anime like Spice and Wolf which actually have a mature and well written storyline even the craziest comedies made more sense than clannad.

Oh yeah, add Spice and Wolf to that list now, I really like how everything makes sense :p
