Re: About the star rating thing for thread...

We already have special unlimited powers* Mwahahahahaha... er, sorry.

The last thing I want is to spend my time pointlessly rating threads. Just because I think something is worth reading doesn't mean anyone else will want to read it. I should think the reason most people don't use the star rating thing is because they know what a daft idea it is basing your decision to read something on whether it has twinkly little stars next to it.

*note: some unlimited powers may have limits.

Do you think it matters too much if a thread goes off topic a bit, if it's really entertaining. We don't want to be stuffy and formal like other forums...cof... (soto voce).. CG Society...cof.

Re: About the star rating thing for thread...

I think your going a little off topic here Shady. this is a thread for star ratings not the topic of going off topic. Smile

For the most part in some cases going off topic isn't truly a bad thing, but in other cases it can completely ruin a thread. If you go off topic in a thread where someone is looking for feedback then that person gets no help and their artwork gets lost to anyone else coming to look at the thread. Or people feel they shouldn't post feedback so as to not interrupt the conversation going on that really shouldn't be going on in that thread. If that makes sense.

Another example is the Feedback posts for current issues. If those topics go way off topic then the IFX staff really can't gage what feedback they're getting on the issue because they don't want to read through all the BS just to find one post relating to their topic.

    ------

So to go back on topic, I myself don't use the star rating because I just don't really feel the need to. I go around and read some stuff, look at some stuff and move on to some more stuff. I really just don't even think of the star rating when I'm on the forums.

Feedback threads are a different matter regarding off topic converastion, I do agree, wholeheartedly.

Back on topic, I find I can't avoid seeing the stars. They shine like beacons of praise or condemnation, depending on their quantity.

yah, when you only see a couple of stars, it makes a few people shine. when you see the whole area filled with stars they're a little hard to look at at that point.

    Pouting is just the warm-up.

You gotta balance a HUGE crocodile tear in the corner of one eye while your lower lip quivers.

(My sister was a master of this when we were little. Smile )

BTW - that's a very cool painting, Martin.

"My God, it's full of stars." is the last communication to the outside universe by astronaut Dave Bowman upon entering the anomaly thingie in 2001: A Space Odyssey.
