Hello All,
My name is Rick and i live in Aberdeen in Scotland.
I am 26 and work as health and safety coordinator for an environmental comapny for the oil and gas sector.
my hobbies are painting miniatures, making models, riding motorbikes, driving cars and (only looking at) aircraft
To be honest i can't draw for toffee, however i do sculpt and paint miniatures, mainly Games Workshop stuff and my painting has come on a long way, especially my freehand work.
As i like to model scenes with my models i often turn to art books, from World of Warcraft, Half life 2 "raising the bar" book, and funnily enough Imagine FX magazine.
I find the mag offers a great wealth of inspiration for my colour pallete and the imagery (especially mecha stuff) is always top notch.
As a result i have tried my hand at playing with digital photo's (got a new Olympus DSLR for my xmas....from myself. lol) and i am trying to make Cartoon style images from real world photo's.
This got me to thinking, that Photoshop elements 5 is fine and all but i would like to take my hobby further, and start on some actual blank digital art work.
I have heard good things about Corel painter 9.1 so will look there.
I hope i can get some advice, and show off my dreadful first attempts at creating some artwork. I am aiming for a style like that of Ryan Church as his clean, photsharp imagery is the kind of thing i like to hang on walls!
so hello again, and i look forward to being part of the forum
