Perhaps less stripes? Say a larger shaped color block on his back. Or actually smaller and closer to his spine. It might be less competitive with everything else. I hear you though, sometimes you just need to step away for a bit. ;)

Thanks Avali. I do actually have a front version of this. This was a freebie clothed fig drawing session at a college open house. Nice opportunity to get some practice in. Plus I got to check out an art school. :)

as far as the business on your predator goes I presume you have the stripes on a sep layer. Have you tried  adjusting the reducing the tone/opacity and maybe boosting the shadows& highlights  (the stripes seem a little overpowering and you lose the nice form you had) also you could try adjusting/reducing the stripes on the shoulder (to follow the position of the leg)? Its a good image though. I hope you finish it.
