    Re: SmartKyle's Mind-belch (yes a sketchbook)

Man Futurama was such a great cartoon. Curse Fox for cancelling it! Bender is one of my all time fave characters too :)

I gotta say I'm really impressed with the work here. I espeacially like your style with the thick black outline. I think you've got a nice grasp of anatomy as well :)

    Keep it coming Kyle :D

Oh and major Kudos to you for sticking with A2 level art. I hated A-level art with a passion, though I think it's mostly to do with the teachers I got stuck with. I quit when they gave me an E for a project I'd worked my a** off on.

    All good stuff Smartkyle.

My daughter is going through the second year of A level art as well.  A ton of work to get through.  Yes, do stick at it like Echo says. Your passion for it is obvious, and that's a big part of what you need to succeed.

    All the very best,

    Nick

Hey SmartKyle, thanks for the kind comments on my sketchbook, here to return the favour... you've got the beginnings of a personal style building here... my favourite is the Android inspired piece.. I knew it would be inspired by him the minute I saw it, so you did a great job! Would like to see you take a little of that into your own drawings, as you did it so neatly. And I don't envy you the Art A level... I took it as a fourth subject to sto myself going nuts from languages, and it was the one that took the most work by a huge margin. And be thankful you didn't have my art teacher, she'd have made you take that lovely oil of the sunset and sew all over it, and throw bleach and tissue paper on it. *rolls eyes* and they wonder why I got a D.

Lmao! I thought that was just my A-level teachers. Clearly they weren't the only ones into that sewing, tissue paper bleach approach to art. I never understood it to be honest o.O

    Re: SmartKyle's Mind-belch (yes a sketchbook)

Thanks for the comments so far everyone! heres the latest, a study of skin tones, I tihnk im starting to get the hang of it abit atleast. First time i've used the colour layer function extensively in photoshop and i must say its a great technique, im loving it! anyways expect and update on the image tomorrow.

Echo- i tihnk my thick line style is deriving form traditionally done design drawings like the one below, its become a habit. we draw round everything in marker after its rendered and then sometimes cut and paste it..... BTW this drawing is my design secrets, dududah! nah not really just the latest batch of design class drawings.

please i want the hand piece to be my best piece yet so any comments on how to improve please tell! or if you spot any mistakes...

Wow, I think they're pretty darn good how they are. the fingers on the right hand sort of dissappear into the background and the first finger on the left hand could use a little more deffinition. This is shaping up to be a really nice study though, I love the colours so far :D

lookin good Kyle. colours seem to move well from the arm to the wrist. after that things get heavily red which distracts me from the over-all skin tone. fingers are looking good as well so far. I like the perspective.

Re: SmartKyle's sketchbook UPDATE 5th FEB page 3

well i finally got round to scanning, so heres a pretty big update, im just gonna lay down the images...

So basically ive filled up my current sketchbook so im after a new one... Does anyone know where i can get a brown paper sketchbook, preferably small? I've looked lots of places and had no luck. I wana try working osme highlights back into my work on coloured paper.

Overall I'm pretty pleased with the last few pages of the book and it almost felt like somthing had clicked, after the page with the girl doing a handspring....

Anyways any commetns are always helpful, in spurring me on to do more or fix my mistakes.
