I don't really no why.... any ideas on why this happened????? it will help me for next time......only thing I did different was make the image smaller before posting......would this do it?????

HansNomad - Woa, where did this piece come from? I've seen it in the WIPS thread and I liked it but it wasn't yet top of my list, and then you surprise us in the finals thread like that!

W.E.C. - The holy grail, excellent theme choice. And an excellent rendering of the theme as well. You bring out the melancholy of immortality the most in my opinion. As a viewer, that does something to me.

Sugar - It's your lighting. It is beautiful. Good job!

 

There were a few other people I wish I could vote for, but there are only three votes. So I'd still like to tell everyone, great job! The entries were difficult to choose from.

I think everybody should be very proud this month, some excellent work here :) 

So, after a LONG debate with myself, I've come up with my choices. I have to admit they're based on personal preference, as there were so many to choose from that were all of a very high standard.

1. Jimsday46 - I LOVE this piece, if you have it in a larger size I'd love to see it, as it's disappointingly small.

2. sugar - Love the concept and execution (if you pardon the pun!). Some bits are just a bit too 'digital' for me though I'm afraid.

3. HansNomad - Very nice feel to this piece, like a sandstorm maelstrom.

Absolutely excellent entries guys. Well done to all.

1. komugurakingdom: A pure, joyful explosion of color and form.  It makes me happy just to look at it.
2. sugar: I love the backstory (like "On a Pale Horse") and the graphic style you used is just fantastic.
3. j.sarver:  Another one with a great back story element.  Why is that kid the only one left?  Is he even a kid? Awesomely done and disturbingly cool.

Like everyone else, I had a tough time with the votes (took me a couple of days to figure out which way to go since I had several favorites:  Sinistral, Tallasis, vablo, among others).  That's just a reflection of the quality bouncing around these forums.  When everywhere you look you find something you like, the votes end up being very personal choices (and reaching people on a personal level like that is the whole point of art).  Great job everyone--one of the best monthlies I've ever seen here!

1) Naszia - This painting is absolutely beautiful. It perfectly describes glimpsing this strange, unicorn-like creature in a quiet wood. I find myself holding my breath when I look at it, afraid that if I make too much noise I'll scare it off. The loose marks suggest so much detail without ever becoming fussy, and the colors are exquisite.

2) Tallasis -  A simple but very clever approach to the theme, painted with consummate skill. My first reaction was to chuckle at the idea and her slightly impish expression, then to marvel at the beautiful quality of the painting.

3) Vablo - A fantastic image. The design and composition deliver a strong narrative which is further enhanced by the color relationships. Great work.

Some other comments: 

Sugar - I love the straight-up, in-your-face interpretation of the theme. The painting skill on display here is excellent, particularly on Death itself. My one crit is that the woman's pose doesn't feel quite energetic enough.

HansNomad - A close runner-up for third. I love the overall image -- pose, composition, color palette, concept -- but it breaks down for me a little on the quality of the painting, which seems to rely too heavily on your line work for clarity.

Sinistral - An excellent painting and concept, but the face could use more work: it's got a very soft focus compared to much of the rest of the piece, which is harms the piece because it's a focal point.

Komagurakingdom - The figure felt a bit off (angle of face & proportions) but the overall image was very strong and well-realized.

Forrest - I think the armor design could have been taken further, and the ghosts feel blurry more than ghostly.  But a great and moody picture overall.

There were a lot of other really great pieces this month, so sorry I don't have time to blab about all of them!
