Proper watermarking is a reasonably effective if somewhat ugly solution.

Other than that, I wouldn't upload anything I couldn't afford to lose.

Yup, that is about the soundest advise. You can't afford loosing it, don't upload it. Unfortunatly. Allthough, a well hidden signature or three is also a good way.
