Re: October 2009 Challenge - 'Witches Moon' - VOTING OPEN!

I'm glad several days are allowed for the voting - I've been away and was afraid I wouldn't be back in time to cast my own votes. Now if I can only decide... I would have liked to vote for at least twice as many and I think all the entries are wonderful!

    1. ZephyrA - because it was my fav from the very first wip (one of those "why didn't I think of that FIRST?") - and wonderfully done too of course

    2. TheKing78 - it's beautiful and it's such a difficult angle but you really pulled it off

    3. Cellesria - it's just beautiful!

    (and 4. everyone else!)

Gee I hope future challenges won't be this difficult to vote on...

Re: October 2009 Challenge - 'Witches Moon' - VOTING OPEN!

Hiya all.Big Smile This was a utterly fun fast and entertaining challenge with a fantastic cackle of entries making it only problem was that it makes it brain damagingly tough to pick the top 3.
Good work and well done to everyone!

number 1 VOLUSPA- wow  a fabulous take on the witch, its not how I’d expect a witch to be but it certainly works perfectly. The moon suspended is again so neat a concept. The up lighting has given the witch some great form and shape. Amazing brilliant idea get my top vote.
number 2 BLACK-SHEEP- I love the composition , all the elements are thoughtfully laid out and have a nice overall flow  and a friendly sweet looking witch. A lot of thought seems to have gone into the outfit, really like the ring hanging down and the stitches in the hat… its touches like this that , that make it so pleasing to look at. You gets my vote.
number 3 ZEPHYNA-  hats of to you for a very creative answer to the challenge you actually made it sexy and neatly answering the call of the challenge title. Got to say you have amazed me with how much improved your skills are, those buttocks have been masterfully handled. Clever and fun.

SEAMANARTS-  impeccable beautiful well painted entry  as always from you. She looks such like an amicable nice witch to know, and looking at your painting seems to have a relaxing calming effect on me.
CZARRUSSI - wow lots going on here to keep the eye and mind entertained. Some nice handling of differing surfaces and materials and the element of mystery and magic has been well presented. I feel it is let down by some minor points, namely the legs and arms being too thin and the hands done incorrectly . Plus the floor plane going through the door way although shrouded in foggy mist, doest feel right
FRAGG- wow crackles with potent evil, you have given her such menace and power. Great lightening effect , reminds me of Strom from the X-men movies. Nice work.
THEKING78- lovely great feeling of being moonlit, skin and dress is splendidly done. Not too sure about the secondary elements, the items around her and the way the grass meets the water just doesn’t seem to ring true. But have to admire how cleverly you have included the moon in the scene ,its a really nice picture to look at
MINBENDER-  Love it, great wacky looking image and with such interesting shapes  really like the limited colour usage too. Your image certainly has me intrigued, what is that fantastic yellow weirdness going on in the sky? And just what is the runny yellow stuff going down the rocks? And why is that tree burning and smouldering away?  I find it a really enjoyable entry because to me it throws up so many questions which just makes it so much more involving. I found it to be a  very pleasing entry indeed.
CANO- what happened man? I have to say I love your stuff, you are genius and your winning pictures have made me laugh lots. You certainly  have great talents but sadly this must have been your off day. I don’t get the picture or what its meant to say. Perhaps the woman in bed is poorly and needed a witch doctor and just got a witch. Hope to see you return to form soon.
QUIDAM-  Man eating witches, what away to go! Nice painting works because of your treatment of the lines those jagged edges and brash colours add to the tension and feel of deadly danger. You have a great stylized look going on. It works for me.
SARAH-  the witch has a wonderful creep old lady air about here, almost like a cinematic make style. I like the idea of the broken glass and the way she’s holding onto it but I feel its let down because it doesn’t feel like its night time at all.
KYLEMESA- gorgeous watercolour  feel to it, superb pose and costume to your witch lady and really wonderful take on the challenge title as it has drama and a tense feel because it seem to be narrative, the viewer feels for the witch predicament. Some major problems with the torch holding figure and im also puzzled by the odd black marks that you put down coming out of the cardboard box.
ORIGAM-E-  Menacing witch indeed, great skin texture and certainly a witch by her features there’s no mistaking that, I think it could use some darker shadows on the face.
MISTRESS- quite a surreal entry, a witch under a great huge wolf. I think the witch needed more prominence , she seems lost in the composition. I do like how you did the clouds and texture and colour of the moon
ROUKE- best atmospheric sky painting here , nicely painterly figure and those heavy paint marks look great. The witch has superb unique feel to her. The skulls could however  have been better painted. It was really hard to choose and I’m sorry but you only just  whisker thin missed  out my vote. It was so darn difficult picking just three from these masterpieces!
JOK- really great wips and drawings and I really enjoyed looking at them, final image just didn’t excite me as much I feel you needed more in the painting . Interesting witch outfit.
THEDARKKNIGHT- almost more of an angel than a witch, the figure needs some readjusting and those boobs need taming. But I like her face and the look she seems to be giving the viewer.
KAZKY- howdy you. Your work is certainly getting mighty impressive! The rocks look solid and the whole picture seems to nicely gel together You’ve done some top notch lighting effect too, the moons glow and the torches are effective indeed. For a laugh you ought to have done a self portrait of yourself eating a farleys rush (-:
FLONEKO- welcome to the challenges Floneko. Some nice touches in this sweet looking picture those stripes are a good idea but I think you needed to make the actual figure and the moon more distinguishable from each other at the moment they seem to be merged into each other too much.
CELLESNIA - nice pretty image, great colours and fancy touches, it looks great in close up.
RADISH - Beautifully polished picture, amazing work as always. Its hard to find anything wrong with any of your pictures! Expertly drawn figure and you had to choose a hard angle to get right, also a spot on interesting background  that adds  to the story without distracting from the figure. I love the angle of the image as it seem to give the impression of the witch flying and  slightly banking to turn.

Thanks also to KOSHIME for the comment, its always great to have your expert view sir.

Again well done to all who entered.

Re: October 2009 Challenge - 'Witches Moon' - FINAL ENTRIES!

This was hard to vote for. There is some great work and it was hard to choose.

    1. The Gurch: I love your witch character and the frog is great!! :)

    2. Kazky : I love that mountain. The composition is great as well as the figures and that moon. The torch fire is also well done.

    3. radish57: Great composition and technique. The folds are very well done.

Re: October 2009 Challenge - 'Witches Moon' - FINAL ENTRIES!

Ouch, it was so hard this time. But, here we go:

1st - Seaman (great idea, beautiful profile, I love starry skies and the way the stars are reflected in the cloak)

2nd - Kazky (always been a sucker for epic landscapes Geeked)

3rd - Jok (beautiful, menacing and sophisticated. Dramatic composition, but I find the moon a little too close to the border)

Runners-up that almost reached my top 3: Black sheep (great artwork, just not my style), Voluspa (really liked the idea and composition), The King (beautifully rendered, but left too little for the imagination - would have preferred it without the blood and knife).

But I think all participants did a great job on this - possibly the strongest final field I've been in. Yes

Re: October 2009 Challenge - 'Witches Moon' - VOTING OPEN!

Ufff!!  Really difficult to decide!  This theme really brought something out of the cauldron to fly...

    My votes:

1- Voluspa.   Different take on the character, composition...excellent! Also a very magic feeling.

2-Jok.  Loved the ambient and design, almost a sci fi witch.

3- very difficult... time for the old coin toss .  and ZephyrA  it is!  ( was torn between  ZephirA, for the excellent painting feel of the skin and light, Cellesria for the colors and overall mood, mistress for the raw strenght of the painting and TheKing78 for the rendering of hair, clothes and figure. The only thing I feel was lacking was a less linear shore.)

congratulations to everyone that finished, and also to all the others who (like me) are  still working on their paintings... i saw really nice work on the wip threads.
