Melinda is the lead role in the tv show iCarly. she was also in the movie School of Rock.

I found who it was that I was thinking of though. It's Fran Drescher.

I can see how it looks a bit like Fran Drescher. Whatever happened to her, anyway?

Here's Matt Dillon. I posted a very rough version of this in the Daily Sketch Challenge month ago, and decided to spruce it up a bit:

I'm not too familiar with Dillon but when I looked him up I could see the resemblance. I actually see a bit of Bruce Campbell in the this one as well. Stick out tongue

not sure what happened to Fran. she just kind of disappeared after 'The Nanny'.

The Sandra Bullock looked fine to me although I kind of understand why she must be difficult, there isn't really one single feature that you'd recognise her by.

You said that you have difficulties doing people you can't picture in your head. Does this mean that you do these from memory?? Or do you use a vague collection of references, or a specific photo?

Apologies if you've been asked this before but I've never been able to get my head around how people do caricatures.

    Re: em...'s random caricature sketches

    Thank you all.

fabledgoat - I've often thought that Matt Dillon and Bruce Campbell looked like each other. They could easily play brothers:

Valence - What I meant was that it's easy enough (relatively speaking) to get a physical likeness of someone (it's just a technical excercise), but to really capture the person, you need to understand their personality, and get that across.

When drawing a caricature, I use multiple references, but there's usually one main one. Maybe I should do some kind of caricature workshop?

nickybeats - I was quite happy with how Matt came out, and he was fun to draw. I think I might do him again some day to a more finished stage.

    Re: em...'s random caricature sketches

You DO use references. Phew! that's such a relief Big Smile Yeah, I see what you mean now, in fact I imagine that understanding the personality is even more important with caricatures than normal portraits.

As for workshops... Hey, I have no wish to force people to do extra work just for me. I'm not some kind of slave-driver (Or am I?Hmm) But a few WIPs especially from the early stages of development would indeed be fascinating.

    Re: em...'s random caricature sketches

    Right, I'll do something.

Now, I'm thinking, should it be just me prattling on about the process I use, or should it be something for other people to join in with too, like a structured lesson?

    Re: em...'s random caricature sketches

well personally i'd like you to prattle on about the process, but THEN do a workshop we could join in on, kind of like show first then when we've seen the process we can join in? although to be honest, which ever you feel comfortable with.

    Re: em...'s random caricature sketches

I think I'd need a hell of a lot prattling from you before I would even dare to embarrass myself by joining in. Of course other people may have different views but for me? Just prattle away, I'll be listening.
