    Re: Follow your bliss

    alx:

If you want to work on several pieces at once, I am the last person to call you on it. Indeed, this path can lead you to victory so don't sweat it as long as you stay productive

Regarding your current piece: Assuming you are referring to Belle form Beauty and the Beast, I'm pretty sure she wasn't a princess. Nor was her name Belle unless you're working from a French translation...

As always, you've put your best foot forward with her luscious mouth. Her nose requires some more attention but I assume that you already know it. Once you address the nose, this should resolve the eyes and the rest you can do in your sleep

Now I have to ask if you know the characters that you are illustrating or if you're simply gleaming off the Disney versions. Because if you haven't read the Brother's Grimm or Hans Christian Anderson, etc. then you can hardly do right by these girls. Someone of your talent shouldn't feel constrained by the whitewashed spin that Walt threw on these classic tales... Get to the source and find the real meat so you can use your art to cut straight to the bone

But that's only my opinion. You've been doing solid work without it, but I can't help but think that if you were exposed to a pure source that you might draw more strength which would reflect in your work

you're right. it never even entered my head that there's other versions beside the disney classic. But, I aim to please and a couple of people wanted me to interperate the Disney version of Belle (that's also her name in the English version too :P ) but I try to give the characters a more enigmatic apearance, more dark. So I suppose that makes it a lil different from the Disney version. I don't think she was a princess! Silly me..but oh well. XD

Thanks alx for your thoughts, I always appreciate them!

    Re: Follow your bliss

    Another beauty emerging!

I have to agree with Fable. They way the eyes are now, it almost makes it appear as if one eye is directed at the viewer, and the other slightly off to the left. An easy fix though I'm sure!

    Re: Follow your bliss

getting better and better here Claire. especially with those eyes. I thought they looked good before but you've managed to make them look even better.

    Re: Follow your bliss

Thanks guys. Smile still working on those eyes, I want them perfect! I think I might do a reflection of the rose in them or something. Hmm..how do you all think the hood would fall on her head? Do you think it should cover a bit of her forehead?

    Re: Follow your bliss

depends on what kind of look you want Claire. if you want the mother mary kind of look then it'd be high on her forehead and you'd see less of the hood. if you want a more modern look then you'd bring the hood down on her forehead a bit to hide her face a bit.

all in all I think right now you'd look good with the mother mary look on her. she seems to have that cute innocent look to her.

    Re: Follow your bliss

hehe, good way of putting it! I think you're right.

I'm not sure how to position the hands. the rose floats in mid-air and her hands will be placed sort of around it. I'll have to think about that one, as well as find a good reference for it. :D

    Re: Follow your bliss

how about cupping her hands under the rose like she'd be cupping water she'd just pulled out of a pond. it'd add to the gentle look of her.

    Re: Follow your bliss

yeah i was just going to say that, just be careful with the hood as Marta has done one quite similar with the hood, not that people can't do similar images of course!
