Thank you Kenmo and Yian. Here´s the last piece, as Disney´s Snow Queen has just been greenlit.

I' having mixed feelings on not liking the queen because she looks evil or like because she looks grandmotherly or like a elegant motherly queen.

Humm, I haven´t read the fairy tale, so I don´t really know whether she was old or not, but I recall from some crappy TV show that she was not good either.

I tried to depict her as a wise woman whom you could trust (the grandmotherly feel),  but who could also be bad. I suppose all of us have a different idea of the character.

    Re: Atlan´s works.

I´m still in a bit of a shock but, as the thread focusing on the issue has been locked, I guess I´ll have to use my own one to express my opinion.

I wanted to complain about the result of the "design an icon competition", since the winning image doesn´t fulfill  any of the guidelines from the brief, which clearly stated specific colours to use as well as a horrid 5 point star to be included. I´m not judging here the quality of the winning illustration(congratulations Alex, by the way), but I feel conned after taking my time trying to strictly following the guidelines just to see such an unprofessional jury decision. Besides, I don´t think a forum thread is the place to talk about any competition guidelines. You modify the guidelines, you update the brief. At least that´s how it should work. Clearly stating the changes on the home page so everybody can access the information. Sadly, this has been my first and last Imaginefx Challenge, since for me they have lost all their credibility.

I link my entry for the challenge as well as a work-in-progess ( I´m not telling they´re good by any means, since I think anything including a star in it has enormous potential of being crappy; that´s why I tried my best to make it subtle)

    Re: Atlan´s works.

this is an excellent design work.

I sent them something very similar. I sent them the all packaging. logo sample, size variations, material variations, panton specs, the works you name it.

I would have voted for ya, buddy.

if the whole "contest"  wasn`t just a lame joke.... I won`t get into the whole thing again. it`s depressing.

let`s just say Imaginefx isn`t what it used to be. sadly enough...

    cheers!

    Pat.

btw - loving your bad ass queen. :) great work.

Come on folks, don't be so upset. The best thing to do is to realize that you have interpreted the rules too strictly. Next time you know how far you can push the envelope, and you can do something similar.

I`m gonna say this for the last time, since no one seems to get the point (for some odd reason) and I`m not gonna spam this kind gentleman`s thread with non related arguments.

    here goes  -

this isn`t about "how far can one push the envelope". for that to happen there need to be an envelope to push, see?...

this is about following a clear, tight, specific brief  that eventually will accept and in fact award works that were from a completely different field and genre.

in a nutshell - if my wife asks me to "go to the market and bring back some nice ripe plantain, not bannana, sweetie, plantain. remember. plantain. got it? now go."

and I go and buy some nice... juicy... pork chop with honey mustard glaze,

when I get home she won`t be saying - "thanks baby! that`s exactlly what I wanted. here`s a kiss." `cause that`ll be absurd. more like a poor SNL sketch or something...

same goes here. I`m an illustrator. and I also do graphic design. if the challenge was a digital painting challenge - that`s what my entry would have been.

    that`s all I`m saying. and I`m not obssesing over this, I don`t.

I keep posting again and again, because I`m trying to make a clear point that most people here don`t seem to get.

the actual WIN  is seriously irrelevant here.

    I swear. I really couldn`t care less.

ChuckMate, You really like to read the rules, huh? Here is the part you should pay attention then.

The graphic and entrant that, in the judges' opinion, best fulfils the brief and best demonstrates creativity and technical quality, will be used in the marketing material for the competition, and will win the Intel i7-based workstation plus software, as sold for £3,686.

So, any more dispute over the judge's opinion is against the rules.

wow. well then... I`m afraid that is just sad.

it`s says SOMETHING PRETTY SAD about the judges....

and their opinions. and in that sense - about Imaginefx and apparently these forums.

but... let`s not rock the boat, shall we?.. happy happy every1 ! smile! smile `till it hurts, peeps, home boyz, gurlz! yaaayyyy!

Yeah, let's all be happy. Stop being bitter. Losing is part of life...

But I believe that you have a very good point. My point to you is not that your concern is not unfounded. I am just suggesting that complaining within these rules is not going to change their mind.

This says something about the written rules... if only we could get someone from the staff to answer your concern.

So, I believe that, in the future, the acceptable parameter needs to be spelled out more clearly. After all, eliminating potential dispute will make a contest a more enjoyable experience.

why do you keep referring to it as a sore loser`s rant / complaint?

I already said about 400 times- I`m very happy for Alex, and I think his piece is very lovely. nicely done.

I don`t care about the prize, or not winning. I`m 31 years old for pete`s sake. come on.

and I don`t "really like reading rules, murmur murmur...." I`m as easy going as the next guy, trust me on this one.

all I did was raise a question. wondered about professionalism. where this magazine and it`s public extension- these forums- are headed to.

first at the actuall thread, now here at this poor fellow`s (after receiving a private msg from him addressing the same issue) art thread.

do yourself a favor - don`t make me look like "a bad guy". it`s childish, and  we`re both better than that.

    Re: Atlan´s works.

Thanks for stating it so clearly, Chuckmate, since my English is not as good as yours. After taking part in many contests, both architectural and designing, this is the first time I feel like I´ve been had.

But as I find this is going nowhere (though the staff is taking quite some time to answer us, should that mean they´ve realised the contest was wrongly held or they´re just avoiding answering us), I will try to look at the funny side of all this absolute mess and draw something related you´re all gonna love it. Well, maybe not all of you.Devil

Chuckmate, thanks again for bringing some common sense to all this surrealism.

ChuckMate, I was just tagging along with you because I thought you were in a fun mood when you made those "happy happy" comments. But seeing how personaly and aggressive your recent reply is, I guess I didn't truly understand how you feel about this issue. I'm sorry. If I knew how angry you were, I wouldn't have joked like that. My apologies.

    Re: Atlan´s works.

Atlan, about your snow queen piece, I think it is a wonderful design, but I have to admit that those triangle thing was a little too heavy. Their values are nearly identical with the queen. Have you triedfading them a little bit?
