Thanks! I am really enjoying messing about with Painter... so much to learn though, far too addictive, any life I once knew has now disappeared because of Corel!

Boy, phewy, spent the WHOLE day on this. well from midday til almost 3am, ok well I was checking ifx and concept art pretty regularly during that time lol maybe I should just turn the net off?

Anyway, my mum wanted me to do a painting of my Dad for his 60th which is this friday, only cos she's peaked at what I've been upto recently, and being the nice guy I am I agreed, good practice anyway init, even tho I got a ton of work to do. So I tried to get it finished today - used one brush no blenders yet (oh and used scratchboard tool for hair), just been comparing it to the photo I have as ref, and well 12 hours into the painting I noticed some of the proportions are wrong, crap. Anyway I dont have time to fix it, and I don't know how! Ill post the ref I used, hopefully it's not that bad :-( I learnt alot about painting skin today, I just wish I could make the painting more interesting... oh well, onto pastures new tomorrow!

Oh, and I don't like the hair much, I found that the hardest part tbh. I need to learn it better, thankfully when viewed from a distance it's not that noticeable.

I left you a comment over a concept art just now btw, I'm gonna try making a sketchbook there, last time I tried I failed miserably and lost all my images before I finished the post lol...

    Re: Alex's Sketchbook 2009

Some crap I did today - mainly anatomy, environments tomorrow!

Posemaniacs, varying times - messy - I've had a weird week, been a bit stressed!! Gonna try and get back on track now.

Ok, I am determined to do some random figure stuff everday - this is entirely out of my head, no refs at all - don't even look at anatomy stuff on my wall - I think this is good practice forcing your brain to remember. As I said I'm going to do it everday, hopefully attempt more difficult poses, forshortening and char perspective etc.

Today I am finally learning Loomis properly - this is going to help my construction no end! And I am doing life drawing twice a week to compensate for 'real life' drawing!

This exercise Loomis says repeat 3 times so I did that - it's about measurement, and head units, I think I've got it - could produce one of these sheets from my head now, just need to practice and not let it slip away.

Needed a quick sketch for daily challenge did this from one of my favourite books "the art of final fantasy 9" K - you kids might not recognise it, but well char from the best game series ever made, 9 wasn't brill bt still aweeeeesooome. Anyway my first ever 'fan art' XD im such a geek. Crap paper though, think its for charcoal!

Tomorrow gonna work on my environment composition, tis about time!

    Re: Alex's Sketchbook 2009

Some more random stuff I did today, sigh - I waste too much time!! Might just unplug the internet entirely tomorrow, either that or you lot stop posting cool pics for me to check out!

I did these in marker pen today, GREAT for making your mark - not as accurate as pencil but great training for making the lines counts, you only have one shot at each contour, so it's amazing practice.

composition I am working on, just a thumbnail, establishing composition, focus and values. hard because it's the first time I've really had to think about it properly - mainly because I'm going to paint it up, which takes a long time, and I've never done that either - apart from when I've copied other artists. lol scary stuff, guess if it turns out crap ill learn something - it's a robbery in the early morning in a arab market, not really sure time period yet =)

yeah indeed, what I love most about his books is reading his advice, inspires and fills the reader with confidence - very motivational, not just on figure drawing but everything really, I wish more books were written like that >.<
