Cool thread a daily sketch is gioing to be hard but hopefully we'll deserve the awards if we stick to it although i have a feeling mine will be reset more than most (no no mustn't talk like that at the start of a new  year)----positive power that's what we need. Happy New Year's Eve everyone and happy sketching in 2009!

I love this idea!  Trying to keep up with this is the perfect incentive for me to get the practice I need. :D  Perfect way for us to keep those New Year's resolutions!

    A few questions:
-- Any particular media preferred?  Digital or traditional with a scanner?  How 'finished' does a sketch need to be?
-- How is a 'day' counted?  Are we sticking with GMT, or are the days counted by local time?  Folks are already posting and it's barely afternoon on the 31st here!

I guess just as long as it is a sketch it wont matter what media i suspect.

But gee this idea is great, perfect reason to start focusing on my art rather than being all over the place.

And a feeding ground of inspiration from all you amazing artists.
It will be great, looking forward to seeing lots of sketches tomorrow!Big Smile

The posted sketch is for day Zero ;) a warm up if you like.

You can pretty much make your own level of difficulty as far as how finished you recon it should be.

I'd say local time is fair, hard enough as it is without another problem for those outwith GMT.

Maybe we should have a limit on the file size that can be posted in this thread?

I don't know about anyone else, but I frequently find myself getting annoyed while I wait for pages with lots of large images (like in the challenges) to load.

Oakseed's Vampire sketch (which is great, by the way) is 784K - if you get a whole page (15 posts) of that kind of size, that'll take a while to load, even on a fast computer. If more than 15 people post per day, that's going to be a lot of waiting.

So, I propose a file size limit of no more than 150K - people need to learn to compress.

Good point, a page that takes an age to load puts me off. I'll add that to the first post and hope people follow it.

i tend not to wait for them to load, time's a-wasting and i'm sure i miss some good images because of it. I definitely agree.

Re: Daily Sketch Challenge - ImagineFX Collaborative Sketchbook 2009

    Cool new rule added!

150K MAXIMUM FLIE SIZE FOR POSTED IMAGES FOLKS

If you need advise on how to reduce your file size PM me (Photoshop or Painter users) or post the question in the area of the forum for your software.

Generally if you save as a .gif at 72dpi and no bigger than 600 pixels in any direction you'll come in well under it and everyone will rejoyce! Of course .jpeg will work too just dont have your quality up to the maximum.
