Many, many thanks for those excellent links edart. I shall prowl them later hoping to find some clues. Something on those sites should shed some light on my woes....i hope.

Howdy GixGidea hope you're my knight in shiny armour.

The card was blank with nothing on it, no operating system on the card. I loaded on the "_DS _Menu" and "_DS _MSL" files. then when inserting it into the DS it wouldnt run..only a "menu?" image shows on my screen. I thne loaded on the "colors" files straight next to it....tried it, still a no go. Sad I could put the colours file into a folder, i think that was suggested somewhere on the net.

The brand of the micro SD is the Kingston 2GB

What i need was one of you more tech sav vy  guys to open your micro Sd and see how the files are laid out on your card. I could just try to replicate that and hope it works.

Re: NINTENDO DS and COLORS any tips?

Yep i already did download the patching kernel from the DSTT website. I ran it on the programs before laoding them onto my microSD ..the only effect i can see that it made was for two of the files to be seen as DS type logos. This was the  _DS_MSL file and the Colors file..the other one _DS_menu stays the same.

I dont think i have tried to run it after putting the colors file into aprogram file after i loaded and used the patch.

Like i say if you could open up your micro Sd, and let me know the files  lay out,  i can tell if i'm on the right roads.

Many thanks for both your helps in this sticky part.

Just double checking on my end.
You have put both the TTMenu folder and the TTMENU file on the root directory of the card?

If you've done that do the step by step thing on this link: http://howto.wired.com/wiki/Hack_a_Nintendo_DS_to_make_an_awesome_digital_sketchbook

    It should work for you.

Also how's the construction/build quality of your card.  Does it feel sturdy?  I bought a games-n-music cart and it was a flimsy piece of crap.

So incase anyone is watching Datel's Games-n-Music is a piece of junk... Don't buy it,

Re: NINTENDO DS and COLORS any tips?

Build quality is just fine, the only thing i noticed is that once you insert the games cart into the DS it didnt pop out readily. I had to use my keys to force it out. But i think its got better now.

Ok will try that ttmenu folder and file trick onto the root directory.

Will also test out the step by step on the link you supplied.

    Many thanks mate.

Re: NINTENDO DS and COLORS any tips?

    No problem...
I'll keep refreshing this page until I hear back from you.
I would start by formatting the entire mirco card.

Put both the TTMenu folder AND the TTMENU.dat file on the root directory,
Then just follow the step by step of the link I posted a couple of minutes ago.

Cheers Gix, rub it all out and start again, hey.

Now  just to clarify  - what exactly does formatting the entire card mean and entail?

Also what exactly does it refer to when it says save to the root menu.

(I just wanna make sure my understanding of these terms is correct!!!)  Tongue Tied

Re: NINTENDO DS and COLORS any tips?

Formatting you Micro SD card is just the same as deleting everything on it and starting from scratch.
Normally you can do this by right clicking on your Micro Card in the My Computer Section of your computer (I'm assuming your using windows, if not, we'll figure that out later).

Once your card is completely clear, then drag and drop (Or copy and paste) BOTH the TTMenu folder and the TTMENU.dat file
onto your card.  The root menu is the first thing you see when you open your card from the computer.

Next, create a folder in the root menu called programs, or whatever you want to call it.  Then drag your colors.nds file into that folder. (I believe that's what it says in the tutorial that I linked to you).

Honestly, I have my colors.nds file on the root directory of my M3 Cart, and it works just fine.

1 format card as fat or fat32

2 use flashme to change firmware of DS

3 dildi patch colours using the corect patch for your cartridge

4 place colours in root directory

The above works fine for my games and music cart.

Is it just colours that wont work?

Re: NINTENDO DS and COLORS any tips?

Check, formatting is what i thought it was clearing everything and starting over.
And check, root directory is the first thing you see and all other programs and spin off are linked to this and branch off. Its all what i though its was - so we're okay there.
Okay now going through the whole procedure live and really real.
    Deleting everything on it.
Edart just confirming that it is indeed FAt file..Check.
    so far so good.
Used space 0 bytes, so micro SD is a completely empty vessel.
Next stage drag and dropped the _DS_MSHL ( size 487kb) and the _DS_MENU (size 1337 kb) onto my card.
    Done..
okay guys wait a sec while i unplug and try this out in my DS.

Re: NINTENDO DS and COLORS any tips?

okay its in the machine and switching on now.....
starts up with nintendo start up screen but then that blooming annoying red menu folder comes on the screen with a red question mark next to it.
i think this is the stumbling block i dont think the problem is with the colours program because im suppose to get some options here but none of my button do anything.
