    Re: Challenge Rule Update!

Yes!! Got them to work! Brain is just a bit slow is all!

For anyone that needs to make links work with a Mac (like me) and can't use the link button (as shown for PC users at start of thread) this is what works for me. Be warned I don't know the technical terms for these things!!

Go to the WIP you wish to use in the wip thread and click once on the first 6 digit number at the top of your post in the Yellow bar,( should look something like 113243 in reply to 113227). This changes what is written in the bar at the top of the screen. Go to this bar and highlight it, (turns Blue) then go to file and copy it. Next, go to the Finals thread, click in your post where the link is going and select Paste from the file option. You should now see some text starting with "http:// blah, blah" there. Go to the beginning of this text and write URL (in capitol letters) in these brackets [ ]. Then go to the end of the text and put /URL in the same type of brackets [ ].

Go to "post" at the bottom of your screen, click, and voila, you should have a working link when the page reloads. Repeat for all the WIPs you require.

Hope my long winded explanation helps someone!

    Re: Challenge Rule Update!

    Ok so....

-There is a WIP thread for the challenge (ex: November 2008 ancient Greece)

-I should make "another" WIP thread myself and link to two replyes in it from a post in the WIP above?

-And in the end I should directly post the final image in the final challenge thread in that section?

    ???

    Yes I'm daft! lol Embarrassed

    Re: Challenge Rule Update!

In the "WIP" thread you post at least two WIP's as you work on your illustration.  When you finish your piece you post the finished image in the "Finals" thread and in that post you have to link back to at least two of your WIP's.  The reason (I'm pretty sure) is to proove that the work is yours.  The rule was already in place when I joined but it sounds as if some people might have been entering challenges with images that were not their own.

    Re: Challenge Rule Update!

    ah thank you!

what confused me was that those who posted the challenge thread should know where they posted the WIP for it.

I guess this means to the actual page 1,2 3.. where my entries ended up right?

    Re: Challenge Rule Update!

yeah the reason we did it was because people were entering pieces, that had clearly taken them a long time to complete when others only had a week/month etc &  to make sure it was created within the timescale of the challenge, or in the rebels thread, make sure it was created solely for the challenge.

when a challenge is set, two threads are made, a 'WIP' thread and a 'FINAL' thread, throughout the creation of your image, you post your updated wips in the WIP thread, when your image is done, you post it in the Final thread, and on that post you need to put a minimum of two links, that when clicked, will take you to some of your stages in the wip thread.

Don't worry, we'll help you if you get stuck.

The links you include with your final entry should link to the actual post that included the WIP image. If you follow the guide in the opening post of this thread when you post your finished pic, then you should be ok.

    *slaps Safari*

If you have any more problems doing the links the way I show in the opening post using the tool bar, try zimfin's method a few posts back and wrap the address in [ url ] tags.

    Re: Challenge Rule Update!

Damn another hurdle to clear to make these challenges, I'm  gonna have to post at least two days in advance to be sure to even enter these challenges. I missed a few because of time difference, and now I have to remeber to post the links. You really know how to make a guy work for it. lol.Confused

    Re: Challenge Rule Update!

I'm new on these forums so for me it's technically not a rule change, but I have a couple of questions.  Posting the WIPs is a rule for the forum challenges, but not for official ImagineFX challenges--correct?

Also--why the WIP rule?  Who cares how you get to a final image.  I've seen folks draw, scan in the drawing, ink the drawing, overlay textures, use parts of photos and then distort them, etc.  Being that the "whole" creative process is more convoluted than just sketching, what possible value could two WIPs have in giving insight to the path of the artwork?  It hardly seems worth the trouble.

Edit: Unless it's to prove that the artwork is your original work--then it makes sense. Didn't think of that angle when I first posted. Embarrassed

Which is actually the main reason why people wanted the rule. Stick out tongue
