    Fantasy Character Concept

Hi, new here. I'm just your average aspiring artist trying to learn what it takes to become a better artist.

This piece is a character I've been working on for a fan project. I sketched it first before taking it to the computer and finishing the image in Photoshop.

Hi Joe. Welcome to the forum. I have to say I'm not a very big fan of manga... and your image is a little stale. But for an artist who wants to learn and develope you've certainly come to the right place. Keep your courage up and keep posting :)

I certainly appreciate the words of encouragement. I realize that not everyone here is a fan of the manga style, however I wish to learn. Not just the manga style but all sorts of possibilities.

Welcome Joe...and while I am not a fan of the typical children's "Anime" there are some forms that definitely capture my attention. Keep in mind though when you are copying your favorite style that the reason for it's look is not for authenticity or realism. The reason for the "anime" look is to reduce complex lines and textures to easily reproduced and quickly recognizable features.

The white wavy line in the hair is suggesting strong lighting from the front but you don't have any other equally strong highlights, other than the bit on her nose.

    A little inspiration for you.

Keep your head up. Just keep workin' and learnin'. The tutorials from IFX are helpful and go rummage around in the Conceptart.org forums. Alot to learn there also.

You must have faith in yourself when no one else will....like now for example.
