    Lusion's Sketchbook

Hi everyone! I've been collecting Imagine FX for some time now and I have been lurking around. I've seen some amazing work on here. I have been shy to share some of my work. So I think It is time to get things underway. Some things I will finish (I hope) and others I may not. I have had my Wacom for a little while and I hope to get better with it. So, maybe, you can help me develop. I won't bother uploading old things as I would like this to start today...so, some silhouettes...

    Re: Lusion's Sketchbook

I picked my favourite silhouette and tried to work it up. I am having problems with the legs and feet. I have been painting and erasing most of the day with this and I am starting to get tired of it. I might come back to it as I do quite like it. Painting digitally is a slow process at the moment. Hopefully I will become quicker the more familiar I get with it.

Ah, mecha work, the one thing I am terribly bad at. ( So any artist that can do it gets an instant bonus supply of respect from me! ) I'd offer you advice if I could, but at the moment all I can say is that for all of your trouble, it looks great to me. So don't give up because it's frustrating!! Please keep working hard because I'd love to see this finished. :]

Those silhouettes look excellent! They do help if you want to come up with great designs.

Avali - That is some very kind words. I still have a very long way to go with much to learn. Thank you

Yian - Silhouettes are the first things I start eyeballing when I want to design something. Thanks for your comment, it is much appreciated.

I have worked this up some more and I will probably leave it at this. I'm still not too happy with the legs. They dont seem to fit the character of the mech. But this is the first one I have ever attempted, so on that note I feel happy with it as a whole. They can only get better right? More soon...

I am currently housebound with flu and on meds. This is giving me good oppurtunity to practice. I have been watching Feng Zhu and he has really inspired me to nail environments. So I wish to work my way through the dvd and hopefully by the end of it be producing some good enviro sketches. Perspective basics....

This was done without the dvd for reference. Some experimentation here. More soon...hopefully better...

    Re: Lusion's Sketchbook

really good start in here Lusion. i have that same Feng Zhu dvd! hes great at simplifying his methods, but he still makes it look way too easy when hes coming up with those amazing enviro thumbs. but then again i suck at doing environments, so maybe i just dont have the vision for them.

those mecha silhouettes look amazing, very intricate. im no good at mechas, but it seems like your jumping from the silhouette into tight rendering before you have established a more basic blocking in of forms and light. if i were you, and this is just my own thought, i might try to loosely block in some shapes and forms using just a slightly lighter color than your silhouette color. like a very dark brown or blue, then once your fairly happy with how the shapes look, and you have a more clear idea of how the robot will function, then you can go in and define the major light source(s) with a more finished look.

andree wallin has some great speed painting videos on you tube, check him out, its really cool to watch how he constructs some of his robots. best of luck,

    -Nick

    Re: Lusion's Sketchbook

Thanks for your advice Nick. I will try what you mentioned and look up Andree Wallin. Feng is really inspiring and yes I agree in how he makes it look very easy, but I guess he's been at it for years. It's all practice I guess, and I should do more than I have been doing. Eviros are something I'd love to be able to do.

     Thanks for stopping by.

Solomon - Thank you. There alot of silhouettes in this manner. I think that is because I am using Alchemy. I discovered it through conceptart.org....it really is a neat little piece of kit. Here's the link if you want to try it. Alchemy

I checked out Andree Wallin that Nick mentioned. Fab stuff, I learnt quite a bit from his little speed paint vids. So I thought I'd try and do something in the same manner. Just a little quickie of the first thing that appeared. Got an idea of workflow from this. I just need to be able to paint. More practice....
