just keep at em. the more your practise. the more fluid it becomes. except the only analogy I can think of is a few hundred year old rusted hinges..that through constant pounding, welding, oiling becomes a superb serviceable joint that flexes at will. (not the best of analogies....but hope that helps some :)

wow, thanks! its amazing how much more dynamic that simple light source just made it look. i think you may have just given me a new reason to revisit this piece. big thanks Koshime for all your help tonight!

Hey Nicky, wow those Bridgeman look great - I like the strong graphic style in your work! Keep it up :) I find a ton of the 30sec poses are pretty helpful.

CHOW looks sweet, nice pose and I like the simple composition. I'll have to head over to CA and start some of the 'of the week's' looks like a great learning experience.

thanks alex. ive been thinking about doing those 30 second poses on posemaniacs, because i really need to just loosen up my whole approach to figure drawing. i tend to be very stiff, and that comes across in the figures.

and those CA weekly contests are so much fun. you should definately head over there, youll be happy you did! i would also suggest looking through the thread that has all of the past winners' images. some great inspiration, i remember i saw what the weekly topic was, and was like "meh, not my cup of tea" , but then i looked through all of the past images and was floored by the talent, i was so inspired that i spent the rest of the night developing my entry for that weeks contest.

nice linework.  i think if you tried a slightly more graphic approach to your paintings that would be cool too.  look at njoo's deviantart - he recently switched over to a less painterly style. not that you shouldn't do painterly stuff, it'd just be a shame to waste nice lineart!

Re: NickyBeats- New and Old Sketches

ever since i started painting digitally, ive been searching for a style in between these. i get inspired by other artists talented linework, so ill spend a long time on this. then to get inspired to paint it, ill look at other artists beautifully painted works, and i try to cover up my linework with colors, which in the end seems to not work well. its still an ongoing struggle, but i do have some new ideas id like to try out when i start a new painting. but for now, im still planning on sticking with the studies. see how many i can bang out. thanks for stopping by, and for the nice comment! i havent seen njoo's stuff lately, ill def. go check it out now.

damn! i just wrote this whole long inspiring rant on why Bobby Chiu is the man, and accidentally hit back on the page viewer before i posted it. anyways i just found out about him, and he is just incredibly inspiring. ill just say this = if you havent heard of him, and are really passionate about art, and want a good reason to push yourself farther than you thought possible as an artist, then just watch this video...
