    Ipod painting Q&A

I keep getting asked the same questions about painting on a Ipod Touch / Iphone so I've started this thread to hopefully answer some of your questions!

    Can I use a stylus?

    - Yes but not any old stylus as the ipod has to have a special type.

Can I export the paintings created on my ipod into Photoshop?

    - Yes most of the painting apps save the files as jpg's and some can even save layered PSD's.

What programs / apps can I get?

    - There are many, here's a few:

Colors Also available on Nintendo DS (where it started)

    Brushes

    Photo forge

    Idoodle2

    Autodesk sketchbook

    Layers

    3D and CAD programs:

Itracer 3D creation from primitives and more

Cadtouch 2D traditional Cad with snap points etc

Sculptmaster Like  a very cut down Zbrush

    Animation:

Flickmation Flickbook animation with onion skinning!

Will add other Q&A's as I come across them!

If you have a question to ask about Ipod painting I'll do my best to answer it!

Hey Cool Edart, thanks for that. I don't have an IPOD, but at least I know that if I get one, that I can doodle on it. Big Smile

A DS or Wacom stylus just wont work because of the way the Ipod screen works. The ipod uses the static electricity in your skin and not pressure sensitivity. So you would need something like this:

    Ipod Stylus $

    Ipod Stylus £

Or you could make your own.

Sorry Zombies your out of luck!

Thanks for the links edart, i see that he made a stylus out of a metal pen is that so that the static electricity passes through the material of the pen to the screen? I always wondered how the touch screen worked when you use afinger or an elbow on it but not when it touches the coins and keys in your pocket..i always though it was done by magic. thanks for unveiling the truth.

Here you go all the data you could want on "How the Ipod/Iphone touch screen works"

Oh and please keep loose change (or keys) away from your ipod, or you may end up without a screen or at the least it will be badly scratched. I know from experience as I scratched my screen quite badly, luckily it was by the home button and the case I then purchased covers the scratch!

Why can't Apple make a lid for the screen?

They leave that to third party manufacturers to keep manufacturing costs of the ipod down!

Just found another painting app: Autodesk sketchbook mobile (from the same company that brought you Sketchbook pro) and it's very very good!
