    Oh dear LORD NO.

I had almost completed a piece of digital work on PS I really loved, mainly because it was the first time I was able to do human art and make it look actually good, when a notice appeared that PS wasn't working properly and needed to close. Being an absolute idiot, I had become so sucked into making this piece that I'd completely forgotten to save it - at ANY point, which meant that PS closed and I just lost an ENTIRE piece of work, except for the original sketch scanned to the computer.

I nearly screamed. I tore a chunk out of my mouse pad with my teeth. Does anyone know if PS has a retreival system (like Microsoft word) that can salvage the file even partially? If not, which is what I'm assuming, I'm well and truly, royally screwed.

    Someone shoot me.

    Lentil.

As far as I know, there is no such thing with Photoshop. There are programs designed to recover deleted files, but if you NEVER saved it, then it is lost. You probably worked on it for so long that your computer ran out of memory.

Sorry for your loss. This happens to me a few times, too. So I always save as much as I can. I know this doesn't sooth your pain now, but my best advice is, save often and make multiple copies if possible.

    Re: Oh dear LORD NO.

    Thanks for the info. :)

I normally save as often as possible, but this time, well, my only excuse is that I was an idiot. I got so involved that I completely forgot to save it. -sigh- I've started a new one which seems better than the last, so that's helping the pain!  xD

And I'm taking careful note to SAVE this time!

    Thanks again!

    *BANG!!!*

You are not the only one to have forgotten to save while working. At least you'll be more likely to remember it now.

This is  the biggest fear of everybody who uses a computer to draw and paint  with . Nothing you can do , but  start again .... and  force yourself to  hit the save button   every 5 to  15 mins  .

I think there is an auto save feature in Photoshop isn't there? Then you won't have to think about it in the future.

    Edit:

Just checked CS4 I guess there isn't. Years ago I had a $100 PS knock off and it had an auto save feature. You'd think the real PS would...

Hehe, thanks for the bullet, and the support guys. I've decided to make a completely new image as the scan of the old one is a little painful to look at! xD

Algol: That's quite ironic, isn't it? I was surprised that PS doesn't have an autosave feature, it being such a high end software and all..

    Re: Oh dear LORD NO.

Ugh, I've been there plenty of times -- often when I open/edit a text layer in Photoshop, or make a shape tween in Flash. It's gotten to a point now where I can see it coming, when there's a slight stutter. The sad irony is that you tend to forget to save when you get really into a rhythm in a piece. Can't adobe release some sort of plugin/patch to create an autosave feature?

Oh god it's the worst thing in the world! I remeber the last time that happened i was ready to chuck my laptop out the window :D rage does not describe it!! My cruddy laptop doesn't help :S

One piece of advice - CTRL + S like nothing else!!! I'm now a paranoid Ctrl + s-er. every 3 seconds.  I agree though it's shameful that PS doesn't have auto save. Painter however does - but i don't like painter that much.

oh well you'll remember now. Unless you are me of course.
