Back to the original topic, for those of you who find Charles slow you can actually speed up the video under Quicktimes A/V control. I found his design and composition videos very useful. For the first time through, he was going right at my pace (I guess that makes me slow too ). But when I reviewed the videos again I went through at 2x speed which was perfect.

I think he's slow coz he repeats himself so much but I have learnt so much from his vid tutorials.
I agree phoeni, I think he's great. Working my way through his "Composition and design" series right now. He does repeat information, but I think that's a good thing, since there is SO much info in each video. Just love the way he analyzes a painting by for instance Donato Giancola or Chris Moore. Like reading a chess theory book, I believe you could watch his videos over and over, discovering new things each time. Especially if you haven't learned all these things before in art school or similar.
I agree I did get annoyed when looking at free vids and he was referring to "all those other vids", but now that I have access to those, I'm turning into one happy art theory geek

are the vids any good? was contemplating getting a series (for crimbo) but I don't know. I mean I love the way he goes into the theory but the repetition ... arg Once consumed by the fire, Now I control it!
Well,I really enjoy them and think 100$ for 63 vids (95 hours) is cheap.
Then you get: ArtTrek, ColorTrek, FigureTrek, Advanced Composition, Perspective, Painting Trek and PortraitTrek. If you feel you learn from the free ones, I see no reason you wouldn't enjoy his more thorough vids (first FigureTrek vid is for instance 4 hours long as it covers both proportions and gesture drawing. Yummy! )

95 hours! how many of those is repeats? I think I am ready to start composing my crimbo wish list. Just out of curiosity does he advertise in the vids like the IFX CD's. Sorry Charles we do love you but you do drone on Once consumed by the fire, Now I control it!
He does have a rather idiosyncratic style, especially his pronunciations (it always raises a smile in those earlier videos when he says "towardwards" He seems to have got out of that habit now) but I must stick up for him a bit. I learnt loads from that one he did analyzing that Chris Moore painting (and I do mean the free IFX vid not the paid for stuff).
And I must add that there have been some decent vids on "that other magazine" (ahem) recently, including some rather shorter ones of Mr Bernard but also some Massive Black ones too. I'm not a great fan of their wacky attempts to convince all of their great personalities but seeing Coro doing a portrait in oils was fascinating.
Any chance of those types of things appearing on the IFX disk? Pretty please?

(EDIT- Damn those embarrassing late night typos )
That's right - I think many of the one I've now payed for was included with the IFX mag - I didn't discover this marvellous mag before issue #41
Glad to find others who also enjoy - and most importantly, learn loads - from Mr Bernard. And you just have to love that "towardwards"

Doesn't he boldly go where no man has ever gone before????
yeah i have learned some useful things from his videos i gotta say, but i really cant stand wading through loads of repetitious video to get to it. but lately i've found that if i put it on in the background while i work on something i can almost bear it http://oreilly-art.deviantart.com
