    Nooooooooooooo! don't delete the children!!!!!!

Children are posts that reply to a specific other post - for instance your post says 134070 in reply to 134048, so it's the "child" of raimo's post above it. Nobody had replied to your double post yet, so it was "childless". Both kazky and me have replied to your existing post, so both of ours end with in reply to 134070 - they are its "children"

Battle of the Planets... maybe you will get more response if you refer to it as its real name...

    Gatchaman!

OMG I used to watch that show every evening! So sad that it was so long ago I can't remember anything about it, except that they wear helmets and they fly! I can still hum the opening song, too! But they were in Japanese so not the lyrics! Memories!

    "da-da!  da-da! da-da-da!"

    Gatchaman!

I would have done except I would have had less response. Most people in the UK would know it by the other title. Technically speaking it's not even the same show as Gatchaman as it was heavily edited and altered from the Japanese original. So what we saw here was Battle of the Planets not Gatchaman.

    Re: What's your favorite anime?

Oh, I see... that makes perfect sense.

You know, BofP and Doraemon has many things in similar. Both features what Japanese anime/manga consider to be the perfect group of main protagonist and support character combination:

     Doraemon:

     Battle of the Planets:

Both shows have the main hero, a girl for the hero to have romance with, a short and wise dude, a big and strong brute, and a fifth character who is usually to compliment the main hero or to form a contrast. Usually, a more kid oriented show would focus on the main hero and the fifth character's collaboration, while the more mature themed show focus on their differences and conflicts.

Even in Dungeon & Dragon themed RPG video games, you can see this similar set up: the main protagonist, a Babarian, a Rouge, a lady (usually a healer or a ranger) and a anti-hero (especially true in Bioware's RPGs, like Mass Effect.)

Perhaps it is a summary of an ideal society (assuming their collaboration:) We have leadership, military (strong man), art/culture (more pacificist, feminie side), intellectuals, and a perosn who is always there blowing the whistle to keep the balance in check.

Ninja scroll is a fantastic blood fest! Love it!

Legend of the Overfiend 1-3 are messed up but really cool! Not to be watched with minors as they are REALLY disturbing. (the films, not the Minors!)

Ninja Scroll is awesome. Overfiend 1 was probably the only 1 worth watching, since it had just the right mix of characters, gore and sex. The ones after were just horrible trying to cash in on a name.

You are right there! Overfiend 1 was the best. 2 was okay but 3 was pretty bad, especially because it was split into several parts and I, unwittingly, bought only the last segment which was so far removed from the style and plot of the original that I had no interest at all! Didn't it swap from Manga to Kiseki when it got to the third in the trilogy?

I'm not sure. It just seemed to go straight to porn. You know, no real plot. Just one sex scene after the other. Overfiend might as well as been a plumber of a pizza delivery boy.

I haven't seen a lot. I really like Ghost in the Shell. Mostly for the characters and I think the writing there is pretty good. Also enjoyed Cowboy Beebop for similar reasons.

I tried to like Akira. I really did. It's supposed to be a "classic" and all that. But I just couldn't relate to it. It felt like a few interesting pieces kind of mashed together for me.

Cowboy Bebop was a great series. Also Samurai Shamploo.

Akria also strikes differently people differently. You kind of have to read between the lines. I wonder about Akria 2......

It was one of the first for its kind, which made it great. But many anime movies and shows came later has surpassed it, so that's why.
