    Re: Comics

yup, I read and collect WAY too many comics. started more on Marvel when I was a kid but I've pretty much migrated over to DC now that I'm an adult. in total my collection is roughly 8000 comics.

my monthly pull list right now includes:

    Amazing Spider-Man
    Batman
    Batman Battle for the Cowl
    Captain America
    Daredevil
    Detective Comics
    Fables
    G.I.Joe
    G.I.Joe: Cobra
    G.I.Joe: Origins
    Green Lantern
    Green Lantern Corps
Nightwing (This will change to Batman & Robin next month.)
Robin (This will change to Red Robin next month.)
    Thor
    Uncanny X-Men
    X-Force

It used to also include DMZ, Northlanders, Loveless, Red Sonja, Simon Dark, X-Men Legacy, Conan amongst others but the they either got cut off due to lack of money, boredom, or they were canceled. Loveless was one of my favourites before it got canceled.

I am thinking of cutting 3 or 4 of these out just to save money though, but alas I haven't fought hard enough against my addiction to actually swipe them off my list. You know, when you type them all out like that it seems like an awful lot more than it does just picking 4 or 5 up each week. Stick out tongue

    Re: Comics

    This week I bought:

    2000ad

Dynamite's new Buck Rogers (I love the old classic heroes)

    Thor

Sub-Mariner Comics one-shot (mainly for the strip by living legend Al Williamson)

Batman Confidential (the last three issues have had art by Jose Luis Garcia Lopez and Kevin Nowlan. I'd buy anything by either of these guys individually - together they're a dream team, two of the finest draughtsmen in comics today)

    Re: Comics

I thought about the Confidential series Em but didn't have the funds for it when it started. looked like a promising run of late though with the Riddler and I thought about giving it a try. I take it the latest few issues have been well worth it?

Thor's been great so far but the wait between a few of the issues is a bit much at times. Stick out tongue

Green Lantern was a surprise for me though. I picked it up about a year or two ago and once I started it I couldn't stop. It's the longest I've seen a series go with consistent art and story in a long time.

I don't buy it all the time, just when there's a team on it that I like. It's kind of like the old Legends of the Dark Knight series from years back - short, non-continuity story arcs by different creative teams. So, you can dip in and out if and when it suits you.

Yes, the publication has been sporadic, to say the least, but I'd rather wait two or three months for an issue drawn by Olivier Coipel or Marko Djurdjevic than have second rate fillers (which was the killer for Grant Morrison's run on X-Men a few years ago). There's been some decent Thor one-shots too, and one coming out in a couple of months drawn by Cary Nord (from Conan and Ultimate Human).

The forthcoming series that's got me most excited (apart from Adam Hughes' All Star Wonder Woman, but who knows when that's going to actually see the light of day) is DC's Wednesday Comics - 15 one-page strips by top tier creators (and Ian Churchill - why?), oversized and weekly.

    Re: Comics

lol. too true. unfortunately Wed Comics didn't get my attention. Cary Nord is one of my favs. He was the reason I picked up the Conan series and then stayed with it for about 30 issues. love the sketch style over top of the colours without the inking.

Coipel's awesome and well worth it. though Marko's a great artist, just seeing his art irks me ever since I met him at last years FanExpo here in Toronto. now unless it's a great issue or writer, I don't pick up an issue just for his art.

now Dustin Nguyen and Paul Dini. that's a pair up on Batman that I simply love. they've been paired up on Detective Comics for quite some time.

    Re: Comics

I generally like comics, though either the artwork or the story has to be really good to keep my attention. My favorite series was Witchblade and Elfquest which both had incredible art and coloring.

I just attended Stumptown Comics Fest 2009 which specializes in independant titles.  I wrote my 2009 report here.

Does anyone ever share my disappointment from a graphic novel that has an excellent cover but the art inside doesn't match in quality?  I see that a lot these days.

    Re: Comics

chyminy: i know, i hate when that happens.  generally i dont judge a comic or GN by its cover, i have to look inside and see if i like the sequentials.  if not, put it back on the shelf.
