    Re: Game demos... Why?

I'm my head, you're a cat, long haired people are nessessarly girls and G. Bush is accually hilter's clone. vote republican! yay! Big Smile or wuz that democrate?

    But for dvd material idea:

-More sketch drawing and concept art?

-A new stock photo section concentrating on models, I personnally find it hard to find nice nudes unless I go to some life drawing class which is not always easy. ESPECIALLY men nude models. of course, I'm talking some qualety pose, lights and photograph, and diversity in the models would be very nice to.

-ebooks or a teaser of some art books you're rating maybe? Like that we'd be able to check it out for ouselves. All art related of course.

    - Perhaps replacing the movie\dvd review by a monthly article that would tackle one of the forum's debate's subject? Their seem to be enough material there to last a while xD

and for imagineFX in general: I was thinking recently that it'd be nice to have some sort of event, like a 24h on a paintchat competition or intencive group class with some nifty kick ass artist to teach us some drawing tips live. I don't know if anyone would be interrested, but I like group stuff ^0^ anyway...just a though like that.

    Re: Game demos... Why?

I don't get much time to look at the DVD so didn't even know there were game demos on them now. Not really a big deal is it? I buy the Mag for the Mag and the DVD is a pleasant bonus that I can keep and check out later. I actually think the repeated content (program demos) is probably quite important for the magazine to stay successful and attract new readership.

What do I know... rock on.

sorry..just noticed, though I'm glad to see other people agree that it really shouldn't be such a big deal.

    Re: Game demos... Why?

I wouldn't rate my issue as high as a complaint. It's just a concern.... and a couple of suggestions as to what I'd like to see instead. I too am sometimes disappointed with the endless manga (or is it anime?... I can never work out what they are) reviews at the back of the mag. I too would much rather see a few more pages of Q&A, workshops or reader art. Hell... I think I'd even rather see a few more appropriate adverts than another review of something that doesn't feel like it really fits in the magazine... especially if that helps the magazine.

I work in the publishing industry and I know fillers and padding when I see them. That being said... I'll repeat what I said before: IFX is my favourite magazine and my only hardcopy monthy magazine purchase. I think there is always room for improvements... if some people feel the contents of the DVD are so unimportant... then why aren't the asking for a slightly cheaper mag with no DVD?

That subject has been raised before and I believe the answer was that the magazine would be no cheaper without a disc than it is with one. So having a free disc with some stuff on it that is of use is better than having a magazine at the same price, but with no additional workshop vids etc. I'd rather have the free disc. Not that I disagree with your question about why the games are on there though.

"if some people feel the contents of the DVD are so unimportant"

Ifsomepeople doesn't have a word to say about this! Angry no one toutches my precioussss dvds! And aside from not changing the price, the vast majority enjoys the dvd.

I'd keep the dvds just for the textures and fonts! It's a no fuss rescource, you don't have to credit anyone when using it in an illustration or get back to the author everytime you want to post in some place new, or sell prints, it really does make life easier for me.

but if you feel IFX is running out of idea for the dvd, we should keep on brainstorming ideas and stuff we'd like to see in there. Perhaps a what do you want in your dvd sticky thread could be a nice idea, like that people could propose stuff that relates to the next magazine's theme to. Game demos for exemple would have fitted just fine in issue 19.

    Re: Game demos... Why?

well my thought's on this, I really don't care if there's filler, ok, how much does a gnomon video cost? and i know it's not exactly the same, but how much would a Marta Dahlig video cost to buy?, a Henning Video/tutorial cost to buy? A Katarina Sokolova video/tutorial cost to buy?

Seriously, there's enough good content on there for you to ignore the rest, so my suggestion is, ignore the rest! It was a fun little addition, probably not in context with a fantasy art mag, but look at the forum, how much is in context there? it's still fun!

I don't know how much more moaning about DVD content i can cope with! what do you want for your money? yes it's a bit more expensive that say, FHM or COSMO or other such 'editiorial' but it's the nature of the mag, so is Painter or 'Photoshop' whatever its called.

Actually, i also subscribe to 'Total Guitar' for my son, i believe that's Future Publishing,  and guess what, they give free plectrums, and guitar straps away, and other 'guitar' related stuff, and you know what, they are pretty crap, poor quality, and they break, and you know why? cos it's £5.99! they also give a DVD with unrelated stuff,

IFX team, maybe you should give free wacoms? maybe that would please everyone? oh probably not cos, 'ya can't please all of the people all of the time'. *sigh*

    Re: Game demos... Why?

yer but kazky, everybody in this thread has basically said the same thing.. we love the mag, we love the dvd and we love the content - the game was a fun addition for anyone that wants it but no harm to anyone that doesn't.  So it's coooool man...

My tip for a free extra would be a chocolate dvd.  This way, if you don't like it, you can just stuff your face with it.  haha.  For bonus material, some workshops for combining normal world art with digital art would be quite nice, e.g. photographing textures for inspiration boards or to create brushes or maybe watching a painting video such as Bob Ross and then demonstrating how to achieve the same results digitally.   I would love to watch a video on brush experiments to demonstrate different possible effects.  And a great freebee would be a pullout shortcut list.  yay.  I don't actually care what IFX does because its great the way it is.

btw, one of my cats is having kittens as I write this.  woo hoo.

Publishing is a particularly poor area to make a profit, and that is generally the idea behind selling a thing.   For this reason, I would be surprised if £5.99 would even be enough to cover the cost of production, let alone the distribution costs (and there are plenty more costs too).  So many magazines go bankrupt its unreal.  Imagine buying a supporting website to go with that too!
