Day 375/375
Great viper Oaktree instantly recognizable! I watched that show so often.
Really great job on the portrait Nightsong, the warm tones are really nice and the hair has a fullness to it.
Thanks for the kind words on the flower from yesterday, As for the waterdrops, I tried a few methods I had used in the past (which weren't many) and none of them looked right on the flower, I ended up applying the technique described here (although i may have skipped one step):
http://www.squidoo.com/paintingtipsdewdrops
I used 3 layers: 1) Bottom layer for base color (white), 2) Middle for shadow layer (Based on color of where the drop is), 3) Top for highlight (basically brighter version of white #1). When applying the base color I had the brush set at about 20% opacity, same for #2, for #3 I set the blending mode to "highlight" and just dabbed a few drops until it was bright enough.
These seemed pretty reasonable looking, however the photo I was studying had much bigger areas covered in water that I couldn't get replicated yet using that method. These were multi-highlighted/multi-shadowed spots of water, I tried but they just ended up looking like gigantic raindrops instead of "wet" areas.
=======
Oil brush sketch and watercolor. I was trying to take some of the profile doodles/sketches I had been doing and take them a "little" bit further.
