    11th Bi-Weekly Rebels Challenge "Crypto-Zoology" Final Thread

The next topic will be: "Crypto-Zoology".

This challenge runs from Friday June 20th through to Thursday July 4th. Final entries only in this thread.

The entry must have been made during the Bi-Weekly timeline, NO PREVIOUS ARTWORK IS ALLOWED!!!!!!

Using the WIP thread is encouraged, as is positive criticism and encouragement (the more the better! Big Smile)...please keep all craic and witty banter to the WIP thread... thankyou.

Challenge ends Midnight (GMT) Thursday June 19th 2008. There is a five minute grace period for people to finish posting their images. At that point voting will begin and last until Midnight (GMT) Friday June 20th.  The winner of "The Rebels Bi-Weekly Challenge #10 - "Nights of Gotham" will then choose the title for the next challenge.

You have until Thursday, July 4th to finish your images.  Final images must be posted in the Final entry thread by Midnight (GMT) on that day with a five minutes grace period for those of us overseas.  Final images should be posted here:

One entry per person. Voting will then commence.
New artwork produced within the weekly timeframe should be used only.

    NEW RULE!
From this point, anybody wishing to have their entry included in voting MUST include at least 2 WIP stages in the WIP thread. In order to make it easier to find these WIPs when setting up voting, entrants MUST also include 2 "clickable" links direct to their own WIP stages in the relevant WIP thread. Entrants can post far more than 2 WIP stages if they like in the WIP thread, as long as 2 seperate links are included with the image posted in the Final Entry thread. Both links must show different stages of the pictures development and neither WIP image can be the finished entry (i.e. you can't just post a couple of quick early pencil sketches for WIP and skip to the the finished pic). The timing of these posts is not important as long as they are within the current WIP/challenge period.

Any entry not including 2 valid links (as described above) will be disqualified and not be included in the voting list. It will be the responsibility of the entrant to ensure the links are there and that they link to the correct artwork. Even If you have posted artwork in the WIP thread, you will still be disqualified from entry if you do not supply the links to those images. Go HERE to read more about this rule.

Fairly new voting rules for anyone who doesn't know yet:
You can vote for up to 3 people.
Your first choice gets 3 points, your second choice gets 2 points, and your third choice gets one point.

    Enjoy, people!

I think I'll do a Kongamato - Flying Demon of the Forbidden Swamp.

In 1923 a traveler by the name of Frank H. Melland worked for a time in Zambia. He gathered native reports of ferocious flying reptiles. The natives called this creature kongamato ("overwhelmer of boats"), which was said to have lived in the Jiundu swamps in the Mwinilunga District in western Zambia, near the border of Congo and Angola. It was described as having no feathers at all, smooth skin, a wingspan between 4 ft. and 7 ft., and possessing a beak full of teeth. They were usually described as black or red. It had a reputation for capsizing canoes and causing death to anyone who merely looked at it. When showed drawings of pterosaurs

"... every native present immediately and unhesitatingly picked it out and identified it as a kongamato. Among the natives who did so was a headman from the Jiundu country, where the kongamato is supposed to be active, and who is a rather wild and quite unsophisticated native."

I don't think I've ever seen a picture of a bog-eyed monster or bug eyed monster as they're sometimes refered. Yet most folk have heard of them. They're the thing that scratches under your bed when you're a kid. They're the thing that watches you unseen  from the shadows as you walk home alone at night..in the dark. They're thing that's stood right behind you this second as you read this..whatever you do  don't turn round and look...!

I don't have a kick ass description like Eagle for my entry. It's just a big old giant squid (Kraken).

Not entirely happy with the hands (is anyone ever entirely happy with hands?) but seriously out of time, so it will have to do.
