Re: Blender Videos & Other Info

Hey, gix was wondering if you'd heard anything on the release date of Blender 2.5? I thought it was suppose to be in October some time.

If anyone is interested the above link features some fantastic video tuts. These are very detailed and walk you through the whole process. The low poly character tut is really nice I've gotten some great results from watching these.

    Hey guys.
I'm not sure I've heard too much about 2.5.  I think they were planning on releasing information regarding the date soon.  I know that the Durian project will help to push Blender in new directions, and I think that's very cool. I'm of the opinion that they should take their time and get it right instead of hurrying and releasing a buggy product.  I know the last thing I heard was Mid October, but that date will probably be some sort of release candidate.  I don't know the direct link right now, but you could always test drive a test build here http://www.graphicall.org/builds/ (I found the link)

Re: Blender Videos & Other Info

Thanx gix! Downloading it now. Heee....heee...

     Edit:

Ok, used it a bit and it's very cool. I think the older users will have more of a problem using it than the new ones. Just because it's a total redesign but everything is very logical now and where you'd expect to find things. I hope they have a good book planned though to help navagate and show all the new features. It will really mess up anyone trying to use an old book or some of the great online tutorials though because everything is in a different place. Good thing I know my short cut keys.

I'm honestly a little nervous about the change.  It takes me a while to appreciate changes and different things.
There will hopefully be some documentation.  I know the Tony Mullen is working on another animation with Blender book.

Re: Blender Videos & Other Info

I find some of Tony Mullen's books hard to follow sometimes. When going through his character animation with Blender book he lost me several times I'd be going along and some things he just didn't explain and left me going what the hell? How did he there? LOL...I figured it out eventualy but I hope his newer books are a little more in depth. I did find bounce tumble and splash to be better though but by that time I had learned a lot of the basics. My wish for a new book would be one that would really get in depth on character modling one that would take me through every detail as far as correct edge loops to use and how to really get into the sculpting mode and make something cool and retopo it for use. I guess that's what I'm most interested in a lot of books do really detailed lessons on how to do a head but pretty much just breeze by on the body. Hands, feet, the loops at knees and arms so everything deforms good when you animate that's the book I'm really hoping to come out.

The above link takes you to a complete series of video tutorials. These are really nice they take you through the entire process from modle, materials, to rigging. Hours of videos I think there are 28 videos in total all at about a 1/2 hour each. You end up with a great character at the end fully rigged and skinned. Also gets into some animation, hair, and cloth

Re: Blender Videos & Other Info

I don't get youtube at work, but i'll have to check them out.  What's the screen name of the creator?  I've run across some very good videos on my various searching.  I know that EvilRobot said he doesn't always like Tony Mullens books, but he's got one coming out on Blender and the game engine used to create iphone games.  I'm very interested in that one since I just got an iphone.  Wink

There's a a blog called the process diary that covers some of the issues the author has faced while working on short film.  He's got some excellent rigging videos on that blog.  Let me know if you can't find it and I"ll post the link when I get home away from this firewall.

sonds interesting, I cant write xcode, but Ive been looking for someone who does for an age with no joy.  maybe Ill get the book and see how it works.  I believe its a little like working on rails systems, but very complex, the frame work is all there on the iphone.

Here;s that website thanks gix I'll check it out some more when I get off work. NO, I like his books and I'd really recommend them (I own 2 of his books so far)  I just wish they were a little more in depth he loses me in a few places here and there.  Here's that guys youtube screen name: ward7299 he is very good, he doesn't edit out his mistakes but I think that's good because you get to see how he goes about fixing it. He also does a few odd things here and there like when rigging he doesn't use the x axis mirror for some reason then he has some trouble when he copies his bones to the other side of the model but all and all he is very talented.

Link to a large collection of materials for use in Blender just about any type of material you want to use on your model you can find here. Blender 2.5 will have these built into it.

Also if anyone knows any good tutorials on setting up light for a scene that would be great having a heck of a time getting my renders to look good/

Try this one... I believe this is touched on in Venom's Lab, too.

    Graphicall Blender

    Hey all,
I know that I posted the link to graphicall for the blender builds.  I didn't get a chance to post this earlier, but they got hacked a little while ago, and I wanted to make sure that you all scan your builds and downloads from that site.  It's a good idea to always scan downloads regardless, but I wanted to send out a warning.
