Brief: Design a new ACME invention to help Wile E Coyote catch the Road Runner.

 

If this is a little too broad for a weekly, break it down into different challenges of: Rocket Powered Footware, Catapults (Coyotepult?) and Baited Traps.

For the Judge Dredd one, you could just refine it:

Title: "Judge Fear - Motorbike Design" 
Description: "In a brutal future world, law enforcement need the latest equipment to dispense justice and survive. An armed and armoured police motorbike that is the perfect tool for a future cop." 
Brief: "Design the motorbike. It must have clear police markings as well as armour and weapons."

You might want to specify no background or character, if you want to stop things getting too complicated for a weekly, and keep it to the bike. 

Following on from that, you could do a character based one.

Title: "Judge Fear - Character Design" 
Description: "In a brutal future world, law enforcement need the latest equipment to dispense justice and survive. From body armour to hand weapons."
Brief: "Design a future cop, male or female. They must have clear police markings as well as armour and weapons." 
(You could make it more like game/film design and say draw one pose of the character and paint three different variations of their outfit?)

I assume you are meaning the name Judge Fear as a kind of pun on Judge Dredd, and not referring to the actual character of Judge Fear - of the four Dark Judges - from the strip itself?

Thulsadoom's post has made me think that the basic scenario could be used for various occasional challenges. Possibly first to design the character; then another challenge for his gun (weapons challenges are something we don't see much of); then his bike (or some other vehicle).

If your looking for a Judge Dredd-like name for the future cop, how about Magistrate Grimm?

That's a really cool idea. Generate our own character and associated equipment over about 3 or 4 sessions? (maybe every other week to keep people happy with variation). Then by the end of it, we have a complete design for a character, his gun and his bike (and maybe a few other things). The mag might even pick up on it as quite a fun 'joined up' project. There could even be a final week painting a scene that merges all the designs. (You could have 1st task character, 2nd task weapon, 3rd task bike, final task painting with all 3?) Though some might not be keen on the final painting, as it will be using the designs from those who've won the previous weeks, so maybe best just to keep it to the individual items themselves. ;)

Magistrate Grimm sounds good to me!!

Just watched an awesome display by the Red Arrows (annual air display for Battle of Britain week) which gave me the idea for a weekly challenge:

Title: Alien Aerobatics (Or alternatively Alien Astrobatics)

Brief: Depict an alien air (astro?) display team wowing crowds with awesome colourful stunts. Include at least 2 vehicles or alien origin performing a signature stunt.
