Deadline:

Midnight (GMT) on Tuesday 31st of May. There is a 5 minute grace period allowing people to get their posts and links sorted. A moderator will then post a list of valid entries after checking links and voting will begin and continue until midnight (GMT) on 7th of the following month. Crits are welcomed during the voting process. Toward the end of the current challenge a new challenge setter will be randomly chosen from those taking part in the WIP thread to set the next monthly challenge, so keep an eye out.

All comments, crits, discussion, and all WIPs (required for entry) should be posted in THIS thread. Final entries should be posted in the finals thread:

Brief rules and additional info:

A minimum of 2 WIPs are required in addition to your final entry. Links to these should be posted along with your final entry in the finals thread. A link is provided below to details of how to do this. You may be disqualified if you do not post WIP links correctly.

All artwork must be the work of the entrant, and completed within the time frame of the challenge. You may only enter 1 entry per challenge, and may only cast 1 set of votes during voting.

Please keep entries and WIPs below 500k and a maximum of 1000 pixels across. Larger files causes problems for all users, especially those on slower connections.

Moderators monitor the voting in these challenges to combat cheating and maintain fairness. We may discount any vote we consider suspicious, and will disregard any attempts at sabotaging the voting, or in any way screwing with these challenges.

I am soooooo doing a fairy tale scene! Just need to decide what style I want to do it in first, what do you guys think? Either: Pixar type children's illustration. Cartoonish pin up, like the style of Papaninja\ Serge Birault Realistic but painterly. Hmmmmmm.....

mmmm sounds like a good idea to me Gabriella... I would say go in the style that will suit the image you have in mind....now Im eagerly awaiting your first wip to see which way you go!

 

As for me I have gone slightly mad.

Here we have the "Far away Diner". Humble and simple looking place with a couple of customers. Oh and  giant lizard attacking the city, just visible through the window. The woman drinking her coffee isnt particularly impressed by this but the man has looked up from his menu to watch. Everyday occurance in this faraway land?

All the refs Im using are from my own photos that Ive pieced together by drawing this basic line version.

Early stages yet so Ive thrown a bit of colour at the lizard to you get a sense of the size...

Ooooh! Loving this!!! Can't wait to see what people come up with this time!

Here's my idea anyway...

I wanted a strong character before I started with the actual picture and here's what that resulted in to. I haven't figured out a name for the species yet, but I'll probably have one tomorrow. It's an animal living far into the jungles where nobody's been before. It's closely related to the tiger but has some very strange ways of living. To be continued...

Added a background and started to paint in some rough colours in mine. Going to paint the background first before I do the girl/princess because I almost never put in a detailed background.

this is my first time participating. I did a really quick sketch to get the composition of the image, I've use only one color to focus on the shapes.
