    Derren Brown

This guy's in the public eye at the moment as he's started a run of tricks for Channel Four in the UK.

He's pretty good at caricature as well.

Seeing as some forumites here are into caricature I thought it would be worthwhile adding a link.

I'm too terrified to click the link, I don't know what he's going to do to my mind when I get there Stick out tongue

His paintings are very good, I've seen a few of them before.

His book of paintings is amazing.

I've seen him live and his mind trickery is very impressive. He nods a lot. Apparently that makes people agree with you.

If you shake your head, it'll counteract his mind powers. Fact.

I now have a strange vision in my head of him on stage frantically nodding at a member of the audience while they shake their head like a maniac until one of them passes out.

His nodding is very distracting when he does a show. I thought he'd developed a tick.

Not that it matters but I thought his lottery prediction and explaination sucked. I shook my head the whole time.

Fooling people into thinking that the explanation was true is part of the trick. I'm sure he's chuckling away to himself thinking about people trying it out.

It's easy to predict the behaviour of a person (especially when it comes to choosing things with numbers on them), but not to predict the actions of an inanimate object.

That whole "wisdom of crowds" phenomenon does work, but only where they are making a judgement based on what's in front of them (i.e. guess the weight of a person). It doesn't work for something that hasn't happened (i.e. guess the weight of the next person to walk into a room).

    Re: Derren Brown

and certainly not based on automatic handwriting. I actually really like Derren Brown, i think he's just a very charismatic bloke, who has studied people and can manipulate them (a bit like jesus) but so would anyone be who had studied people. I can manipulate people in certain situations as i'm sure many people can.

but i found the whole lottery thing a completely pointless waste of time, everyone knows he's an illusionist, so what was the reason, he didn't really tell anyone how he did it, i just didn't get it, at all.

by the way, obviously the jesus thing was a joke......

    Re: Derren Brown

Harlequin, you realise that you only think you saw one of his shows live. You actually just went in, sat down, he clicked his fingers (while nodding at you), then you got up and went home believing you'd seen a show.

(and kaz you nearly manipulated me into making a comment that would probably have upset a load of people on the forum Stick out tongue)
