Gears of War Costume for New York Comic Con NYCC

Here is the Gears of War costume I made for the NYCC event.

Below is the long process for making this. It was the first costume I have ever made and didn't have too much room for error, so it was basically measure twice, cut once and pray it fits.

I started with a hard to find adult size motorcycle vest

Cut and drilled holes for the front extension.

Added mesh and plastic to front part of vest.

    Getting ready to add clay.

Then I mounted on a hook where the second gun is going to go.

I cut out a template of of where the backpack is going to have its parts onto plastic.

The I cut and mounted on the plastic peices onto the plastic back.

Then I drilled holes and mounted the plastic backpack to the back of the vest.

Mounted on mesh to the backpack.

Getting ready to add clay to back.

    Clay added to front.

    Clay added to back.

The clay eneded up cracking pretty bad after it dried. I had to use filler and then smooth it down. Here is the primed paint.

Here is the beginning of the shin guards.

    Beginning  of thigh gaurds.

    Beginning of front guard.

Work being done on the belt.

Shin guards being taped while being glued.

Thigh guards being taped while glued.

    Belt with front guard.

    Shoulder guards taped and glued.

Then I mounted the boot gaurds.

Shoulder guards after painting and adding nylon strip.

Added on layers to shoulder guards.

Sewed on buckles and straps.(This took forever)

Front and back after layers and layers of paint and clearcoat.

Sanded down nerf longshot. Had to take it apart to lighten it up.

    Priming of longshot.

    Adding detail to longshot.

    Sealing gap 1 of longshot.

Sealing gap 2 of long shot.

Adding shoulder carriers. I didn't paint the insides so I can add lights.

    Lights added and tested.

Thanks Neeko! It's cool to see the bit by painful bit process. I thought my costumes were time consuming! Excellent job Neeko. Especially for you first cosplay costume. You'd never know it was your first. Well done. You look great!

Hey! What am I doing at the con?!! LOL!

Imposter! She stole my outfit! Actually mine IS better, AND I have weapons! meh,heh.....  It's currently resting on my manikin...which freaks everyone out btw! LOL!

Neeko, again, this is awesome. I bet you were tired by the end! Did you enter any costume contests there?

Yeah! What were you doing at the con? When I was getting interviewed I thought you would get a kick out of this.

Yeah, I was pretty tired after all has been said and done. There was a contest at the end, I entered but it was so late we left 'cause we were tired and hungry.

LOL! Um, yeah...didn't  you know I could teleport?  I did thank you! It's always great to see a fellow Elektra sister out there. :) We know boys love her, but it's great to see the ladies show some respect as well! :)

Ah yes fatigue and hunger is very compelling! LOL! Were your friends in character too?

Re: Gears of War Costume for New York Comic Con

Thanks for all the comments guys. It was as fun to make as it was to wear.

Only one other person I went with dressed up. He went as Dan from Street Fighter.
