    Sleep [S] Fae Queen

    Attachment: RM-Wip-1.jpg

I'm going to follow in the suit of Schin. She has a great WIP system. Started a wip thread months ago and just keeps updating the title. So that's what I'm going to do too! Thanks for the great idea Schin!

You can see my finished works here:  http://community.imaginefx.com/forums/permalink/162775/162775/ShowThread.aspx#162775

Ok, so this is obviously a very early and rough sketch! LOL!

Here's the general idea: I plan to play with some textures for the background. The bats and birds will be more suggested than actually detailed. There may or may not be moonlight in the background. I've not yet decided. The Mage himself will be a bit of a mystery, but he will need to convey something dark and evil. His cloak will eventually look a bit worn and tattered...he is quite ancient you know! ;) Also his face may end up not being a face, but I've put one there for now. There will be some kind of mist underneath his cloak....perhaps it is coming from, or is part of him. The main light source will emanate from the magic in his hands.  And I already see, that the caplet portion of his cape will need to be a bit longer...

Alright, so Wip one, here it is. I've a lot of work to do. Off I go.

    Re: The Red Mage

I would advice you to start with a more general color palatte and lighting scheme before defining anything as small as specific shades in the folds of his robes. This'll help you create a vibe before you start detailing.

Thank you Martin and Erwtenpeller. I have the color palette and lighting scheme worked out in my head. Just a matter of mind to canvas!

    Re: The Red Mage

Ooooh Red, I absolutely love red, hope to see some bright blood red in there its my favourite colour lately - it also looks like there are some swirly swishy bits toward the bottom so I'm looking forward to seeing how you do that.  Hurry up with the next installment!

    Re: The Red Mage

LOL Martin! I know, right? I'm on it!

Adrasteia, LOL, jeesh, no pressure or anything! LOL!!! There will definitely be brighter reds. And there will be lots of swirl and swish to be sure. All in a very menacing and hopefully creepy manner. ;D

I should have another update either later tonight or tomorrow. Ok, ouch I feel the whip already! I'm going back to paint!

Aw thanks Kaz. I appreciate that. Yeah, I just had to see if those would be the right do dads for later! LOL! Thanks for coming in!

Okay second wip. Still super rough. This was more about slapping down the gist of him than anything else. Still checking out some cool textures to play with for the background. I think I will move forward with the mage at this point and worry about the background later. (Research can be such a bore!) For once, the background isn't as important to me. Don't get me wrong, it's important...I just need to try something new....stretch out a bit.

    Re: The Red Mage

I personally prefer the mage coming from a sketch idea where your mage begins to blend with the sketch kind of like your first wip. If a more realistic approach is your desire this is a step in the right direction. the concept is a nice one and I can't wait to see the development of this piece

Thanks Phoenicorn and Alex. I'm glad you stopped in.

What? You can't see inside my head to see how it will look when it's finished? LOL! Yeah, he is going to look rough for a bit. The storm is always worse before it gets better!

I'll have another update soon. I'm hooked on this guy. ;)
