Conkers! Official ImagineFX challenge - just for fun

    Hey guys,

Back by popular demand, here's another just for fun IFX challenge. Remember the Matt the Vampire challenge? The very talented Kay Inglis (who used to work here at IFX) has written another short story for you to illustrate.

Download the story here, give it a read and illustrate whichever part you wish. Kay has given you lots of scope to get creative.

Here's what she said about the story: "With Conkers, I wanted to write a classic horror story with a few original twists. My aim was to give IFX’s talented forumites lots of options - characters, creatures, creepy locations – so that everyone had something to get their teeth into. As usual when I write, I started with an image, and after a brainstorming session with my writing group, came up with the bare bones of a story idea, which I fleshed out over two days. I added a few visual clues as to how I imagined some of the characters and creatures to look, and I can’t wait to see how the forumites interpret them.”

Deadline is Tuesday 2 December, midnight UK time. Uploads your wips on this thread and your final entries here

Winners and honourable mentions will get pride of place in ImagineFX magazine. And some lovely art books from our office.

I'm sure I've forgotten something important, so I'll await the regular forumites to tell me off... :)

For all the people that want to run thier gums, this is the thread, not the final image thread.

You know who you are people.

I don't like spiders and snakes and that aint what it takes to love me.

so in the interest of actually getting this thread on topic! Confused again! Wink

this is a link to my DA account, there is a folder in my gallery called resources/tutorials, the trees in the second wip below are from a brush set I created using 3d trees from vue6.  feel free to download it and use them.

1st image is composition...  movement sweeping through in a curve hopefully.  spooky house background, then spider then bloke.

next image is more progressed, house and bg are pretty well on, spiders in place but loads to do, and the running man Im just starting to flesh out, once I know how much of the spider he blocks out Ill go back on that.  colour wise IM going for a washed out desaturated grungy look, I think it fits the theme of the tale well.

    all help appreciated

Hello all... I sat down while brain storming with my DS, and this is the product of yesterday's doodling.
I don't know if I'll stick with this exact image, but I have some ideas as a result.

Here is a direct link to watch the playback at the colors site (I hope).

Re: Conkers! Official ImagineFX challenge - just for fun

This is the next stage, the grey scale man is running from the spider, Ill be adding colour to him in layers over the top using pens set to colour mode and layers in overlay. took an age to get the cloth right, but it works well now I think, might add more texture if the colour blobks too much.

there is a detail shot below showing part of the face and clothing, I used a fat face advert as reference for the neck line Big Smile  Not to sure about the vein effect on his face and arms, I want to portray the poison taking hold as hes running, so a palid skin tone, beads of sweat etc.  but the veins I thought would be a good indicator that something is attacking him internally. Ill wait and see how they fare once there is colour added.
