NINTENDO DS and COLORS any tips?

Hello y'all i have just clicked on the link Tom has put on the home page proclaiming how to hack the DS and make an Awesome digi sketch book. This look interesting indeed.

I have a DS and i now have an urge to do as the link instructs.( shucks i'm so easily led) I have only just ordered the DSTT set needed and a memory card.

My credit card is still warm and I'm  waiting for the kit to arrive.

Oh the idea of having a pocket sized digi sketch book to take with me all over,  gets me excited all over.

Anyway im no computer wizard and i dont think i have geek blood flowing through my veins.

So is it easy to do? Is there any pit falls? What are the packages failing? How do you get the pictures uploaded onto the comp?  Anyone out there already done this and willing to share their knowledge?

You need GixGidea. He's the DS Colours god around here. I'm sure he'll pop up at some point and tell you everything.

Re: NINTENDO DS and COLORS any tips?

    Its not hard.

You need a special interface card eg. M3 reader, a small micro SD t oinsert into it. wallah. works instantly. nothing to install.

You install colours from the freeware colorus homepage onto your SD. and learn how to use the M3 (kinda like old windows /file broswer) and hey presto.

Thanks also koshime, although im not too fazed by the set up procedure, i  wanted to hear from people who had used the program. Who had dabbled on the screen and what their verdict and views were. Althought its too late for change of mind. Shall eagerly await the postie now.

It works as prescribed on the tin. Very hand y for long trips, or in the field sketches where our modbooks or tabletpC dont fare as well

    too much info...

on the other spectrum. the PSP is better in terms of closing your machine and opening it to play next time.

Howdy jimsvanberg, just go to the Imagine fx home page and on the right hand side theres a box filled with  all the latest and greatest breaking news. Tom has kindly put alink in there, click on the link and voila it will take you to the place that tells all. I was smitten by the screen shots and have ordered the necessary items. Go check it out now. Hey someone should start a Nintendo forum on here showcaseing what can be on this nifty little console.

Re: NINTENDO DS and COLORS any tips?

    Did I hear DS???
Gurch, the set up is rather simple... Here are some links that walk you through the setup.

    First: Colors Website: http://www.collectingsmiles.com/colors
There's a FAQ section on the main page, just scroll down.

    Here's a setup tutorial: http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=109672

And finally, here's the colors gallery... They have amazing images, and one of the cool things about colors, is you can watch a person's pen strokes as he/she puts the image together... When you get Colors and start using it, you can also download and run a java program that allows you to do the same playback thingy, but it also can enlarge the image so you can save a version bigger than the dinky png default.

When you get your new toy, and if you have any questions, shoot me an e-mail or a message and I'll help you out.

I love having a digital sketchbook, and I highly recommend it to anyone (although my images are no where near as impressive as the ones you'll see at the gallery, it makes me happy).

Re: NINTENDO DS and COLORS any tips?

I'm telling you it's an awesome program.  I played with it a bit today while I was trying to get my mental juices moving for the weekly challenge.

Jim, the same offer is open for you too... When you get the materials for the program, give me a shout out and I'll help where ever I can.  I like to be helpful.  Wink
