MechaHateChimp's Blog

The only blog that guarantees to grant you super-human strength, washboard abs, and have you frothing at the mouth from power that only gods have known...

Ok, I don't know much, but I do know this...

... waking up naked in a dark alley next to a dead chicken is not a good sign. To some extent, I think it's nature's way of letting you know that you drink entirely too much. But even more important, it reassures you of the fact that scotch and co-workers don't mix.

Ok, so now that I have your attention, I'll take this time to post a sketch for an upcoming article I'm working on. I don't want to give out too much info but see if you can figure what the feature will be about:

In other news, I've been staying pretty busy the last couple of weeks with various projects (both commercial and personal). I plan on posting periodically in this blog about random weirdness and maybe throw a dash of art in for flavor. Oh, and by the way... that chicken thing was a joke. I'm gonna go take a shower now. - J

That medusa style image is great, how do you go about blocking in your sketches... do you favour dark to light etc & what software ..? I'm trying to loosen up my aproach and move away from getting stuck into detailing to soon when starting a painting...

About MechaHateChimp

My name is Joel Carlo and I am a multimedia developer residing out of Denver, Colorado. I work as both a graphic designer and freelance artist with a current devotion to motion graphics and web development. My professional career as an artist began in 1993 where I was hired to work as an illustrator for a now defunct entertainment group. In the short time I worked there, I helped develop concept designs and illustrations for print. Thereafter, I pursued work as a freelance designer which has afforded me the opportunity to develop my skill set as an artist in both traditional and digital media over the last several years. My educational background as an artist has largely been self-taught, although I have had two short stints as a student at both the Tampa Art Institute and Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design. My client list is varied and ranges from commissioned work for small studio projects to larger commissions for clients such as Future Publishing, Burrows & Chapin, The Ayzenberg Group, NASCAR, Dodge, Toyota and Fox Television. I am currently looking for work as a concept designer or 3D artist in either the gaming or film industries. If you are an employer in need of either, please feel free to contact me with any inquiries regarding commission work and availabilty.
