random wierdness from the life of a comic book colorist

and so it begins.

thus it begins.  a new era of creativity is underway for me.  what a week.  glad to finally have put some things to rest so I can get started on others.  I’m spending the weekend catching up on some work.  Lots of things to do in the next week and a half here in the studio.  However, I have charted a new course for myself in the last week.  Over the course of the last several months, I’ve accomplished quite a bit of work.  But none of it really for myself.  I spent an hour or two the other day picking up and organizing my studio, and thinking in general terms of what it is I really want to focus my spare creative time on.   I love coloring comics.  However as my skill set has grown in the last year or so, I’ve started to think BEYOND coloring comics for a living.  Comics are great, and a wonderful way to make a living.   I aspire to tell stories sure, however I want to tell those stories of mine in a different fashion.  With that in mind, and an eye for my future artistic career, the adventure I’m about to embark on is going to lead me down paths that I have never been before.

With that said, I’ve started work on an ambitious creator owned project of my own.  It’s NOT a comic book however.  The time isn’t right just yet to share any information on this, however I think I can say with confidence, I haven’t been this excited creatively in a long time.  It’s taken years to get to the point where I can tell this story the way I want to, and now that I’m at that point…the cup runneth over with endless possibilities.  Is this an insane venture on top of all my coloring work, which is how I make a living?  Maybe, maybe not.  I’m leaning towards maybe not for obvious reasons.  It’s about time management, juggling your deadlines, and passion.  With an emphasis on passion.  This is by far, the most ambitious project I have ever undertaken.  It’s a journey that I have to make alone, at this point anyway.  However what waits at the end of this journey is something so wonderful and beautiful, that it will make the pain and suffering of late nights, early mornings, even more gray hairs (or loss of hair) and lack of sleep all worthwhile.  Stay tuned in the coming weeks for a teaser image and even more info on this project.
