random wierdness from the life of a comic book colorist

creative burnout

never thought that I'd be dealing with this problem, but it seems that for the first time since I've been freelancing, I'm dealing with a sort of creative burnout.  Not to say that I haven't been working through it, but my level of production is FAR below what it usually is.  I think there is a legitmate reason why too.

Over the course of the last 2 months, (April and May) I've colored the equivalent of almost 7 full comics.  that's close to 160 pages worth of stuff.  what with baseball and softball for the kids going on now, not to mention things for school and everything else, getting the flu for a couple of days...and that's not to mention everyday yard work like mowing yard, building retaining walls around the burms surrounding our pond, and starting the patio outside yesterday....I'm just feeling completely mentally and physically exhausted.  My back hurts, my hands hurt, my neck hurts, my legs hurt......my creative BRAIN hurts.  Still....I'm plugging away, trying to get a few more things colored before the Wizard World Philly show coming up in Mid-June here.  Hopefully things will get better after the show, settle back into a routine, the patio will be finished, the kids will be almost done with baseball and softball....and I can get back into a groove of just worrying about coloring and painting and paying bills.

With all that said, it's been hard to summon the inner juggernaut to get things done, as he seems to have gone on vacation and left me behind.  Still, I've done some good work lately, just not as much as I am accustomed to.  So hopefully I can squeeze in some R and R in the next week or two, and then get back to it.  I'm not used to physical labor though, and building a 500+ sq.ft stone patio, is a real challenge.  I'm trying NOT to think about how many TONS of dirt, stone, gravel and sand I'm moving around, because I know my frail frame would collapse in protest if I ever told it exactly how many thousands of pounds worth of crap there was to be moved around yet.

oh well, back to being a hermit for now.  I've not even had much inclination to post on my blog the last couple of weeks between beating deadlines, or rather, being BEATEN DOWN by deadlines.  I could use a nice long nap I think.
