I'm an artist wh is 17 and is hopefully headed for M.I.A.D., Milwaukee institute of art and design.

Sorry

Sorry for not keeping up with the posts. ive been working on a new website and its been pissing me off 'cause joomla doesent offer nearly as much freedom as html does...... gonna be diggin in for a while....

Scrib Man

A single line in art has the oppertunity ,when guided properly, to get to this.

(large smile streaks across duane's face)

still not to good, mindless scribbling, thats all.

im so excited i could just s**t!!!

(Duane then cop's a squat and parks a coily) lol :-)

Back from the Great Beyond

been one of my longest breaks from blogging all year. Things have been
super busy though with school starting up again for the kids, between
volleyball games for my daughter, football practice twice a week for my
son, in addition to a football game, and then watching the game film
with the other coaches......oh, and I have tried to actually WORK this
month for a change too, not to mention looking for more work. I've also
decided I think that if I have to mow the yard one more time this
month, cuz it's growing like it's on steroids, we might just landscape
the ENTIRE damn thing with rocks, mulch and various shrubbery, flowers
and more trees and call it done.

How busy is it really? Well I'm
up at 4 or 4:30 in the morning the last 2 days because I can't sleep
for thinking of all the *** there is to do when I get up. Which
naturally leads to me dragging my arse out of bed, and starting to get
said *** done so that I can basically stop working by 3 and start
running around. Today though an honest to goodness nap might be in the
cards (seeing as how the couch in the upstairs living room is just
outside my studio)

Kind of feeling like I've got no time to work
on any of my creator owned projects anymore either right now, which is
creating a huge drag on my motivation to do any work. This whole
financial mess that the country is in, seems to be affecting just about
every industry, comic books included. I'm waiting on money here again
this year, not the first time, probably not the last time, and
definitely not a surprise. It seems that almost all publishers, with
the obvious exception of Marvel or DC, are really struggling to make
ends meet for themselves these days. I've even heard rumors that
Diamond is having trouble paying publishers on time. Not sure of the
truth in that, but boy if that IS true, and I've heard that from quite
a few people now in the industry, it's no wonder so many publishers are
struggling. Which in turn, makes it painfully obvious why creators are
struggling as well. Maybe another good example of why the logic of one
major point of distribution is faulty. If Diamond was to start
struggling themselves, then everyone they distribute for would be boned
(retailers, publishers and creators) Just seems like a real rough time
for everyone outside of the giants of the industry, and makes it that
much harder for guys like me, who've been making a living coloring now
for over 2 years without ever having worked for said giants before.
It's not impossible to find work right now, but it sure as hell ain't
EASY for me either. Still, I think I'm pretty lucky to make the kind of
money I make, have virtually NO expenses working from home, be able to
set my own hours, and get to do so much family stuff at the same time
(when I don't have a pressing deadline)

So, it's almost 5:30,
and I didn't really mean to turn this into a big complaining post,
because at the end of the day, I certainly have FAR less to be
complaining about than a lot of other people. I think I'll try to get a
couple pages colored here by lunch time so that I can fit in that nap
I'm already thinking about now.

Elite Creativa (spanish)

Aqui algo extra

Creemos
entonces, destruyamos entonces, dominemos entonces. SOMOS ARTISTAS Y

Atentamente: Attlantic.

REDEFINE AL ENEMIGO.

Uploaded some of my work here

Hi, I haven't been here for ages, I got a bit burnt out with the internet last year and tried to downsize on the art communities I was uploading art to because it was difficult to keep track and I am useless with forums and things.

I've been trying to focus on many things including my painting and I think I'm back on track again now.

I hope you guys will enjoy looking at some of my work; some is quite old now but I have put some of my newer stuff here as well. I've been developing my painting technique quite a bit in Painter and I am more confident about painting than I was last year.

I have also created some custom brushes for use in Corel Painter, which are available on my web journal if anyone wants to try them out.

Because it’s our Grand Opening the first 28 people to buy a print or Giclée get a free surprise print. Also in the coming weeks I will have some brand new special items up that I am currently working on. Curious to know what they are? Well you’ll just have to keep checking out my store to find out. If you’re also on Etsy drop me a convo I’d love to hear from you! TheBeadedPath just added me to their treasury take a look

Spore

I waited over 3 years and now it’s finally here! I was watching the Discovery channel(my fav channel) on Saturday and saw the Spore special they were playing spliced with an animal’s of the future show. Apparently this was the show he saw that inspired him to make Spore. So on Sunday we ran about trying to find a store that had copies of the game. We ended up at Fry’s where they had a nice little display table with all the different collections you could choose for the game. I got the Galactic Edition and Aleric got the art book pack so we got all the special features combine. I had a blast playing the cell part until I saw Aleric playing it and his had much smoother movements and that’s when I learned I had had my settings set to high and now that I set them lower the game runs much smoother. But how awesome is that if it was one the best games I’ve ever played and it was even working right when I played it? I keep toying with the idea of applying to EA since the office that makes all the games of theirs I actually play is just a couple cities over.

Con-X-Treme, Etsy & SiliCon

Con-X-Treme

I’ve spend the last few days avoiding writing about the con since I don’t usually like to speak ill of anyone, but I can’t just let other’s fall into this trap if the con is still around next year. I’ve never seen a more mismanaged travesty than what took place at Con-X-Treme and I’ve been in student run school plays. The con was over pitched, they made it seem much more professional that it was and lied more than once about what was going to be there. Half of the things I went there to do never even took place including the charity auction. The staff there nice but basically forced to do the bidding of the one person in charge and as I found out later had to pay to get in just like everyone else. I felt worst for the attendee’s since they paid $30 for a day pass and there was almost nothing to do. We gave one attendee, Jeff Lee an impromptu art lesson after across the room silent hangman stopped being fun. All that unpleasantness aside I did meet some cool people Joey Jordan A fantasy/SiFi artist from Washington, Steve Savage creator of the blog Fan-to-Pro and the guys of the local band Phoenix Ash. I also re-met Jen of Juror2 who I had seen around our area at farmers markets in the past. Scott Aleric and I were also asked to be in a panel by Joey where we discussed design, color theory and layout. I could go on and on about why the con was a complete and utter failure but frankly I’ve got more important things to do.

Links to cool people:

http://thejefflee.blogspot.com/

www.joeysrealm.com

www.fantopro.com

www.phoenix-ash.com

http://juror2.net/

Etsy

On a more pleasant note the KatGirl Studio’s shop is now open! I’m operating it through Etsy, though you can also get to it through my site. Etsy for those of you who don’t know is an online marketplace for handmade items. Unlike ebay they don’t charge you to open an online shop, just a tiny fee to sell an item plus it looks more like a cute boutique than a used junk warehouse. Currently there are only Giclée’s(fine art archival prints) and prints but soon there will be mini masterpiece wearable art, mini canvas prints, ACEO’s and other cool handmade items in my shop. Also I am designing plushy Kiki Kitties (our mascot) that will hopefully become available for adoption around the holidays. Please check out my shop if you’re bored, in need of a gift or tired of staring at plain white walls. www.katgirlstudio.etsy.com

SiliCon

KatGirl Studio will be at SiliCon October 3-5. I've been reading the Mag here in US since issue 6. I've been checking in on the site off and on for over a year. I'm finally a member myself, hooray!

Ok so I'm thrilled to be here! Now onto the frustrating part. Perhaps someone can help me out?

Yesterday I uploaded 7 images into my gallery. All images are RGB jpegs. (Acutally 2 are png) I tried to keep the images small as well. I've used the default gallery...nothing fancy.

Ok here's the issue....now only 2 of images can be seen. A third one is in the main gallery under "most recent". But you can't see it in my portfolio. I deleted and re-uploaded everything this morning. The situation has not changed.

Under "Manage your Portfolio", I can see everything, and everything shows up how it should under my portfolio. But no one else can see them. HELP HELP HELP!

Can anyone help? Please, my Portfolio currently looks rag tag and un-organized. I would greatly appreciate any help offered.

Thank you!

:)-Red Ninja (aka:Valerie)

WILLIS KING

I'm a rock guy, i like musicians like Axl Rose and Robert Plant. I usually turn away from Rap and Hip Hop cause its just not me. But people like Willis King and his Album UNFADEABLE is not something i can just turn away from. Yes, the music is angry, intense, sometimes even violent. But its more than that. Its has alot of emotion and truth. It doesn't follow the "template" of other music played on the radio just to make a quick buck. I also like his rhymes and music and the way he delivers it.

For example, the song KILL YOU: which can be heard on his myspace page. Has a calm beat with a light piano harmony that contrast angry and descriptive lyrics. I find that genius. In rock music, the music matches the mood. Or at least most songs i hear. In this song Willis is showing both sides of himself, a cool chill dude and another side you just don't want to cross.

In short, Willis has given me a new genre of music i can explore.

And his album... Aint gonna fade away anytime soon.

check out his myspace page below.

Katgirl Studio & Lost Graphics Studio will be in the Vendors/Artists area with our nice new banners so you can’t miss us. I’m having 7 prints made for the convention that will also be available online. I will also have 3 different 1.25 in buttons at the con and maybe a few other goodies as well. Katgirl Studio will also have items in the Charity Auction to benefit the Children’s Hospital of Oakland. It feels a little weird to be back and the weather is so much cooler here. In the coming days I will upload my trip photos to my photobucket and the videos to somewhere. My mom’s other sister brought two of her daughters and we ended up with about 12 or so people. We got to watch the Jedi Academy show during lunch and Aleric pointed out the inaccuracies in it and the fact that Darth Vader would have demolished all the kids in reality. We went on Indian Jones which promptly broke twice while we were on it. The ride’s just not as cool with the lights on and the snake was broken. We got stuck in the dark in the part where the jeep stalls while surrounded by bats or mice (it’s hard to tell which). It was hysterical because the jeep would rumble and buck and the things would squeak but it wouldn’t continue. They did however let us go on a second time but the ride seemed to break after that and didn’t work the rest of the time we were there or the next day for that matter. We then went on Pirates, I had been worried that they would take out my favorite part. Don’t ask me why but as a kid my fav thing in the whole park was the parrot that talks to you in the line of Pirates of the Caribbean. They had replaced the old one with a parrot that was closer in color to the one from the movie and much more lifelike. He was canned awesome so I took a video clip. When the park was about to close we went back to my other aunts home in Luguna Hills.

Day 4:

We are in the parking lot of Disneyland waiting for the tram when I notice that all the rides in California Adventure Park suddenly screech to a halt as the ground begins to sway. The surrounding cars begin to bounce and the air fills with alarms sounding. Yes I happened to be at Disneyland when the earthquake hit on Tuesday the 29th. We finally get in and try to walk down Main Street as the Mass Exodus fights to break us apart. I have never seen so many people flooding out of anything. Everywhere people seem to be having no luck with cell phones (they didn’t work for 2 hours). We get to and ask the girl at Star Tours when she thinks the rides may reopen, of course she has no idea. We end up sitting in the shade in front of the Tiki Room eating pineapple whips. A lady from Canada voices her surprise that all the buildings didn’t fall down and we have to explain the California building code to her. All the rides a closed for about 3 hours and then only some reopened. We ended up sitting outside Space Mountain under a tree and talking to this cool guy Brad Stone about art, and life. The only rides we actually got on the day were The Jungle Cruise and the Hall of Innovations which isn’t so much a ride as a moving room of canned awesome. We got to see the worlds move advanced AI and yes I got a video clip which I’ll post soon. Though I tried really hard to find her at Fantasmic I never did find my friend Brianna :iconbri-chan: I blame the earthquake. We finally left the park with these goodies in tow: 2 plush keychain Stitch’s, 2 Stitch as Emperor Palpatine action figures, a Squirt the turtle plush keychain, an Apprentice Mickey car antenna topper, a Star Wars Clone Pilot Republic Gunship and At-at that turn into transformers, a green Tinkerbelle “Little Miss Sassy” t-shirt and a build your own Lightsaber (which I built and proceeded to carry around the rest of the time we were there) that lights up blue and makes noise.

Day 5:

Aleric surprises me by taking me to the La Brea Tar Pits which somehow I forgot was even in California. It’s a pretty cool place if you find museums fun (which I do). It’s kinda weird since it’s a green park with a giant lake of tar surrounded by sky scrapers but hey that have Saber Toothed cats! In fact they have the largest collection of Ice Age bones in the world, an observation room and working pit where you can see Paleontology students wallowing around in tar muck. When we were done we drove back but stopped to drive down the street I was named after, Alicia pkwy. Every time we would go visit my aunt, my mom would point it out but somehow we just never drove down it. For someone with an uncommon name it’s a little weird to see your name on everything. We got back and worked on making banners. My aunt owns a scrapbooking store (among other things) that also had printing services one of which was banner printing. Though the store is closing they still have the printing equipment and so KatGirl Studio now has a 89inx33in retractable banner. If you’re looking for a banner for shows or cons for $250 (half the price of other companies) I can hook you up. I finish my art first and decide to go out and pet Hot Shot their miniature horse (apparently completely different than a pony) who lives in a cute little corral in their backyard. He’s almost the size of my parents German Sheppard and also gets taken for walks in the evening.

Day 6:

We pack up everything and head to my aunts store to get the banners printed. It’s sad that when I actually get to see it its closing, then again I haven’t seen them in about a decade so. Aside from the banners, they bestow upon me a bunch of gifts they make or import. Which I’ll share with you all later. After we go back and get the banners assembled we head out to Beverly Hills were the conference is being held and check into our inn thing. Not to complain but I wouldn’t recommend the place since the air conditioner was loud the shower was badly lit and poorly designed and the parking garage was a pain to maneuver through and we have a Honda Fit, I don’t even want to think what it would have been like in a normal car or hell an SUV.

And because this is an incredibly long post already I’ll post the Conference half on Monday =^.^=

maybe you want try also

Adobe After Effects CS3 PC & MAC

My Courtyard of Fate image is even the background image for when you click on FXPose. Next I just have to worm my way into the actual magazine. :)
I'm very happy about the feature.
Just realized I made a big mistake. I forgot to turn off a layer when sending them the baby in a robot pic so the surroundings around the baby are all screwed up. I had started to re-visit it (based of some feedback I got on these forums) to make it look more like there was liquid and the baby was floating and I got caught up in work and wasn't able to come back to it. Forgot I'd even been fooling with that and just flattened and e-mailed. Another reason I so rarely use layers because I either do stuff like that or I paint something on the wrong layer and ruin the purpose of having separate layers.

PROTIP - Become a master painter with the Wunderbrush!

Many may wonder if there is a secret brush or technique to achieve greatness. Asaide from that I’m waiting to see if my re-print biz cards get here in time (the first ones where the wrong color)and waiting for the print shop to call me.

On another note, I went to Dollectable on Saturday and met a ton of cool people, learned new things and bought much needed items for my BJD (like hair). After watching the basic face up class I am considering trying my hand at one since apparently you can use pastels (I have a 90 piece Rembrandt set that is currently seeing no use). If you know anywhere that has useful info about face-ups preferably using pastels please email me, note me or otherwise leave me a message. I’ll have to look more into that when I get back from LA.

Which reminds me, I will be gone in Southern California from this Saturday morning till really late Aug. 4th. And since I will be at Disneyland next Monday and Tuesday there will be no studio update. I will have my laptop and the trip but I don’t know about internet.

What no comments

Just wondering really, as much as i check on my artwork, and i only have five pieces on the site at the moment granted, why does no one leave comments? I always try and leave feedback on other artists when i get the chance both on IFX and on Deviantart and i had hoped to get the same in return. Don't get me wrong, I'm not looking for heaps of praise or ass kissing(not likely to either) just honest critique, "like what you did there but why did you color her hair blue". I'd be happy with. At the end of the day we all draw, paint etc with the need for others to look and get a reaction. Can i have some reaction please????

Recent Stuff

Things are pretty busy at the moment. Finally beginning to finish some of the children's book pictures for my mom while I'm still doing a lot of illustrations for RPGs plus now I've got the full-time job creating concept art.

I'm going to be on the DVD for ImagineFX issue 34. Very excited and proud of that.

Should be getting my prints for my Gencon portfolio shortly. My presentation is going to be heads and shoulders above last year.

Side note to publishers. You guys have to hire artists as your art directors. Hiring anything else is like hiring an illiterate to be your editor. You want somebody who understand what a sketch means and how that will look as a final piece. The non-artist art director is often won over by more polished sketches with worse ideas and composition. Artists will often put less work into a piece that they feel couldn't be a portfolio piece and artists seem to be least enthusiastic when they've been unable to come up with a good composition. A good art director can help their artists to create good compositions and this means their artists tend not to just put in the minimum.

BBQ, Proofs, Promo Book & Dollectable

Sorry I didn’t update yesterday by the time I got back from checking the proofs for my promo materials for the SCBWI LA conference my mom called to remind me about their BBQ (my mom’s sister, my uncle and my cousin and her friend were staying the night on their way back down to Palmdale) and I didn’t realize somehow till I was there that it was a Monday. Ya silly I know.

Still working on my mini promo book, which is more like a mini book dummy in all actuality. It will have a fully painted cover but the inside drawings will be just line and will demonstrate I can illustrate action and keep the character consistent throughout. It was be posted on my site when it is complete and probably here too. If you haven’t checked out the new site please do and tell me what you think. There are even 9 avatar icons in various sizes for you to use. Prints will be made and put up in the store after I return from the SCBWI conference. If you want a particular piece as a print let me know and I’ll see what I can do.

Also I’ll be attending Dollectable this Saturday if you’re going to be there let me know and maybe we can meet up. I need to buy shoes (Mary Jane style mostly), wigs and find a good face up artist but also they have to cool workshops I wanted to take.

hello im madirishman

this is my first time doing this internet thing .please look at my art let me know what ye think.all done bey bey
